Oh, and I really like my job, but I would retire this afternoon if I could.

Same for me... though my "office" moves from my library, to my dining room table, to my basement. 

For the most part, I love my job... but as others have said, if I could retire I would immediately and spend the rest of my gifted time traveling, climbing, hiking, and pretending to be a musician.  I turn 42 this year, hope to "retire" from the mortgage biz in 10-15 years and do something else (food truck or very small eat-in/take-out place likely)... by then, I'd like to have a few small AirBNBs spread between Virginia, NC, and Maine to support us.  Should dream big right?  I have schematics for the structures ready... just need the lots/land.  Lord willing.

I'm guessing this belongs here seeing it is the oldies thread. When I first used to visit this site I didn't have the address bookmarked so I would search for "DTF" and almost always the first few results would be some smut or really wacky sex related stuff. Never understood why until once the top result was a link to Urban Dictionary and then it made sense.

So somehow I managed to pull a muscle in the lower side of my left rib cage. It started the same time I got the flu and has never gotten better. Went to the Urgent Care yesterday after the pain started getting worse again. Doctor started poking around and hit the spot and I nearly leapt off the table. Intense pain.

Now my question is, how exactly did I strain it? Did I cough or sneeze and do this? I literally live on my couch. Anyway, now I have a strong anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxer to knock me out.

Sounds like rib cartilage?  I've done that a couple of times training and the pain is intense.  Intense coughing can definitely be a reason.  The more you cough the more it's going to flare up.  It takes weeks to improve usually.

I have cough-variant asthma. It's a persistent dry cough that can vary in intensity based on other factors. It's been fairly bad lately. I'm back on my inhaler again to try to calm it down. Every time I cough it feels like someone is punching me in my left side. Lots of fun.

Sounds like you displaced a rib. Very common with severe coughing. A good chiropractor can fix you.

As soon as I got home from Urgent Care I made an appt with my regular doctor. I see him next Thursday. He doesn't mess around and will do everything he can to get an answer. Everything is conjecture right now.

Ya know, I always said turning 40 was like flicking a switch where my body just didn't recover from pain and injuries as fast.  What would take a couple of weeks to get over something in my 30s all of a sudden would take a couple of months (at best).

Well, 50 said "hold my beer".  It's just general soreness and aches that take forever to go away.  I pushed myself a little too hard with my exercise routine in January, and my shoulders are STILL routinely quite sore because of it - and I haven't worked out since the end of January.   

Youth is wasted on the young.

I am officially old.

My oldest and her fiance officially set their wedding date.  September 30, 2023.  We booked the venue, and now have to sell our souls to pay for it (a castle, no less, and yes, it will be a medieval/fantasy themed wedding).
