I banned it because I knew he will send it in the first round and listened to it just a few days before starting my roulette. :lol By the way, I didn't like it that much either.

Well in one roulette it gave me a 10/10 - sadly that user stopped logging into the forum. It was the first roulette I managed to lead, even with seneca playing :'(. But the Bizkit and others have liked it so wtf, you ain't gonna stop me!

Unless you ban that certain Kevin Gilbert song too... :neverusethis:

Just checking in to say that the results are all pretty ready by this point, but I don't know what to do since there's a missing song. Should I wait for sneaky (which hasn't logged in for like four days) or should I post them and rate his song later in the roulette?

And here we go

Round 1: Openers - THE RESULTS

This was a great first round, you guys sent tremendous songs, also from artists that I didn't even hear about at all - and actually, the best two songs are from those artists.

(I'm gonna tell you the results in order of preference, to avoid any type of confusion.)

FIRST PLACE: Web Raider / Nekov - with respectively the songs "The Pattern" by Jolly, and "Hyperventilate" by Frost*

Great job guys, you sent two absolutely stunning songs, for very different reasons. I've enjoyed The Pattern so much thanks to its trick: it's a song that makes you think that it's alternative rock/metal, but then after the second chorus, progginess ensues, and it's so unexpected, but still so coherent to the sound of it all. That's called great songwriting - have that and great catchy vocals with awesome lyrics, and you can see why this is one of the two songs that I've liked the most this round. It got me definetly interested in hearing more.

Hyperventilate, instead, is a stunning instrumental track. What struck me about it is the production, everything sounds so big and dramatic, whilst the song is actually pretty happy and fun. It reminds me a lot of Haken and Ayreon (even though Haken weren't even a band when this came out), and it's the most fitting song for what I meant as "opener". I need to check out this album.

Great job you guys, you both receive 9 points.

SECOND PLACE: Sacul, with "Love Song" by Destiny Potato.

You lazy bastard sent me the song you always send, and then sent a song which has part of Where Is Now in it  :lol - but anyways, I already knew a bit of Destiny Potato, and this song drew them to my attention even more now. This literally sounds like a Taylor Swift song written by Periphery. The two styles combined make something unique and fun to listen to, and I'm talking especially about the main riff. That is so groovy. Another cool thing are the sudden blast beats - shivers. The bad thing about this song are the lyrics. "Screw you, fuck you, mmh I hate you - this time for real" - Really?  :rollin I mean, I get the whole pop metal idea, but those are just bad. But the music makes up for that.

Gonna check out Lun. 8.5 points

THIRD PLACE: Scorpion with "The Illusionist" by Scar Symmetry

I had already heard a song from SS a while ago, and I've liked it. And infact, I like this song. I think it's a great combination of Power, Prog and Death metal, three elements that are perfectly equal and balanced in the song. The growls sound really evil, and kind of remind me of Mikael Akerfeldt, the riffs are djenty and groovy as hell, and the lyrics are your typical power metal cheese, but not that bad. The only thing that is a bit subpar are the clean vocals, but not the execution (this guy's voice is stellar, infact), just the melodies in general. They sound very typical and unoriginal. But apart from that, this is a really nice tune  :tup

8 points

FOURTH PLACE: Shadowninja / Sneakyblueberry with respectively the songs "Dance Of The Manatee" by Fair To Midland, and "Excerpt from 6,000,000,000,000 Miles Before the First, or, the Revisitation of the Blue Ghost" by Maudlin Of The Well.

Two very different songs are tied in the fourth position.

Dance Of The Manatee is a cool alternative metal tune by Fair To Midland, a band that I've heard good stuff about, but never checked out, until a few days ago, of course. This track has an inventive vocal line, that kind of left me surprised and "meh" on the first couple of listens, but then it grew on me, and now I like it very much, especially the chours. One thing I don't like is the bridge. I mean, to me that sounds like a bad version of Disturbed. Sorry.

The long song with a very long title ( :rollin) that sneaky sent, is a beautiful composition by Maudlin Of The Well. I know a couple of their tracks, and they're crazy. But in this song? Not at all - infact, these are 10 minutes of pure peace and calm. Although I can't see it well as an opener (that's why it's this low), it does a great job in creating a beautiful atmosphere. I also noticed that the album is in free download, so I went ahead and downloaded it - will check it out soon.

Good songs guys, 7.5 points each.

FIFTH PLACE: Elite with "Used" by Pain Of Salvation

This is a very weird song. It has a dark/wacky vibe, with rap verses. I feel that there are a lot of good ideas in it, but the things that make it not that great is the first verse and chorus. They both sound very uncoherent to each other, but then the song gets better and better starting with the second verse. It has a chugging guitar that follows the rapping pattern (and that's GENIUS) and then an emotional build-up, which climaxes with a high pitched scream by Daniel Gindenlow. I don't quite like that guy's voice, so that's another reason why this song is low. But I appreciate it a bit, still - not that bad.

6.5 points

LAST PLACE: Evermind with "King Of Errors" by Evermind Evergrey :neverusethis:

You had the chance to resend another song (since I've heard this one, but a long time ago), but you eventually became the King Of Errors  :-\
I can't seem to get into this tune at all. To me, it sounds very generic and boring, and also repetitive, with the same keyboard melody over and over again. Pity, because I quite like that guy's voice. Sorry mate, but you kind of expected this  :rollin

5 points.
------

So this means that:

WebRaider - 9 pts.
Nekov - 9 pts.
Sacul - 8.5 pts.
Scorpion - 8 pts.
Shadowninja - 7.5 pts.
Sneakyblueberry - 7.5 pts.
Elite - 6.5 pts.
Evermind - 5 pts.

---

Wow, not also do I get a way too low score for that song, but also 4 bands I had on my list to send in later rounds were sent as well in the first round :lol

(Those bands were Jolly, Frost*, maudlin of the Well and Fair to Midland, though only Shadow Ninja sent the song I would have sent from those respective bands)

I'll think about what to send next and will send it tomorrow.

The maudlin of the Well track works fantastically as an opener as it sets the tone for the whole album, guy.
