Both Gene Simmons and Ronnie James Dio have laid claim to "inventing" the use of the "devil horns" in music, but back in February of 1969, an album was released by The Beatles that clearly showed John Lennon flashing the "devil horns", albeit in an illustration by a German artist named Edelman. That certainly predates Simmons (a self-avowed Beatles fanatic) and though Dio had been recording off and on since 1960 or so, he didn't become a national (or international) name until at least 1972, with Elf's first release.
