Dream Theater songs about Resilience?
« on: May 18, 2015, 04:06:05 AM »
Got an acoustic gig coming up and they want songs connected to the theme which is Resilience. Is there any Dream Theater songs that I can learn connected to resilience?

The only two I can think of at the moment that can be interpreted that way are Take The Time and The Answer Lies Within.
People figured out that the white thing that comes out of cows' titties could be drunk, and the relation between sweet desires and women's bellies growing up for 9 months. It can't be THAT hard to figure out how a trumpet works.”

I'd think Learning To Live would qualify....wouldn't it?

I think The Bigger Picture's lyrics kind of fit. And I feel like that song would translate well in an acoustic setting.

Take The Time
Maybe Only a Matter of Time as well.
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

I think the last part of Illumination theory "Surrender, Trust and Passion" qualifies into the Resilience topic. Awesome lyrics btw.

These Walls seems like a spot on reference to the subject matter.

I Walk Beside You could classify under that topic from the protagonist point of view in terms of persisting and helping someone you're in a relationship with, and sticking by them.  It would also be perfect acoustic form too.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Good choice that is really very moving however the feel and vibe of Surrender,Trust and Passion is really meant as a finale of a Suite I am not sure if it will sound good and convincing if it will be played as a stand alone song. If they will play like some medley they could probably segue it as the Finale.

Nice post and Awesome thread

What about Learning To Live?

I thought the same thing until I realized he's going for an acoustic version....don't know how you pull that one off on LtL?

I think I Walk Beside You might be what I take up. Learning to Live would be cool, but not entirely sure if I could pull it off acoustically. And gm5k...that was funny, but no

EDIT: Used to say Learning ti alive, which I really didn't intend, but my iPad changes things to make no sense

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.
