Iris Divine - The Static and the Noise (Oct. 6)
« on: April 08, 2015, 12:49:43 PM »
I was going to start a thread about this band and did a search first. That brought me to this thread in the Musicians Forum:
https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=42904.0

This is a GREAT album. Really liking what I am hearing. Saw this review:
https://www.metalreviews.com/reviews/album/9082

After reading that, I checked some youtube clips. I was easily convinced.

Bought the Amazon Download for only $5.99!
https://www.amazon.com/Karma-Sown-Iris-Divine/dp/B00T4AGNXK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1428518292&sr=8-1&keywords=iris+divine

Favorite songs so far are:
 Prisms
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-K-3JuHN314&list=PLZRDRcAB652xNo39RLxbnhy1c9FHwXI71

and In The Wake Of The Martyrs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taOzMNIkiTo&index=8&list=PLZRDRcAB652xNo39RLxbnhy1c9FHwXI71

I would describe it as Train Of Thought era DT without (or very little) keyboards.

The bassist in this band is an absolute beast!

So after not seeing Phen's thread originally, this is a band I stumbled upon yesterday and I'm thrilled to find out that a DTFer is actually IN the band!!
So Mods, please keep this thread open as while it appears to be a duplicate, I feel that some people (like me) who never go into the Musicians Forum might miss it. This band needs to be heard.

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Hell yeah.  I purchased Convergence (their debut) a number of months ago, but didn't know this album was available so cheap.  I listened on Bandcamp a couple times, but have now purchased.  This is a great band.

That's pretty heavy stuff. I can see why you compare it to TOT.

I became aware of them because Jeff Teets (MindMaze) was pimping them on FB for a while. I think they've done shows together too.

You'll have to forgive him - both iTunes and Spotify indicate 2015.   :P

HA! actually, both dates are correct:

we self-released on dec 8 of last year and within 2 weeks we signed with a management company that told us to pull the cd so they could hook us up with sensory records. sensory then re-released the cd in march of this year. all retailers are using 2015 as the release year.

Album rocks hard. Love the tone, composition and mix of this album. Fantastic playing on all instruments. Just 45 mins but the entire album sounds huge.

Bump of sorts. This album randomly came to my mind today and listening to it now, man the guitars sound so huge. The album is excellent from start to finish. Apparently new album is in the works and probably out next year.

Saw these guys supporting Haken at the last show at Jaxx/Empire ever, was pretty impressed, though the vocals and sometimes the guitars weren't mixed nearly hot enough, almost buried under the drums at times.  I should revisit their stuff again.

I LOVED their Static and the Noise album. Very cool sound and great musicianship all around.

I never checked out the previous album - I guess it's time to do it  :)

New album dropped today, just heard the first track and it slays. The production is so massive, can't get enough of the mix.
