----------------------------------------

This survivor started in the middle of last autumn (October 17, to be precise), ran through the whole of winter, and into spring. Now, after 164 days of voting through 14 album tournaments, Consolation, and well over a month of Finals, it's all come down to this.

Welcome to the Grand Final! Two songs remain in a head-to-head clash to determine the 2014/15 DTF Porcupine Tree Survivor Champion. From 1996's Signify, we have DARK MATTER, and from 2007's Fear of a Blank Planet, it's ANESTHETIZE.

This round will last for 48 HOURS. If there is a tie, I have decided to run a Tiebreaker vote, as there might be a difference in vote count after just 24 hours, and I'd like there to be one champion by any possible means.

Also, I want to take this opportunity to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has participated in this survivor over the last five months or so. It's been quite a ride! I've never attempted anything near this big before, survivor-wise, so I'm relieved it's gone relatively smoothly.

A reminder that you're still voting for your LEAST favourite of these two songs. Now, go and decide your CHAMPION!

Dark Matter

It's my 3rd favorite PT song, but Anesthetize is my #1, so there you go. Thanks for running the survivor, RoeDent, it was so much fun.  :tup

Voted Dark Matter, still an amazing song though. Its highs just aren't quite as high as my favourite moments in Anesthetize, also Anesthetize is one of my favourite songs ever.

Anesthetize is very overrated. I don't think it would make my Top 3 on FOABP.

Dark Matter, on the other hand, is completely amazing. Probably my favourite Steven Wilson song ever.

Observer commentary:

Wow, I would not put either of these songs as the top PT song. I hope Anesthetize wins, because I really don't get Dark Matter, but... wow. Arriving... was the last song left that I would personally feel at all comfortable putting at number one. Just goes to show difference of taste, I guess.

Side discussion while this is going on: If neither of these two are your personal No. 1 song, which is?

I'm not 100% certain what one song I would put at #1, but it would most likely be either Trains or Arriving Somewhere But Not Here. And definitely not one of these two, though I could see Anesthetize slipping into my top ten.

These two along with Arriving somewhere are pretty much tied for number one so I'm very satisfied with the results!  :tup

it's not my fault if people vote poorly  :lol
the winner of a survivor is not the "best", it's the "least disliked" because that's how we vote in survivors
so it's not surprising that everyone's personal favorites are gone while generally well-liked but not necessary favorite songs remain

*everybody gets a vote*

*no one is satisfied with last two choices*

DEMOCRACY IN ACTION

I was thinking about this earlier. Each time, it's only really the 'consensus' choice if a song gets more than 50% of the vote. This is simply 'most votes out'. A song could get 6 votes, and four other songs get 5 votes each, but the 6 are satisfied, while the 20 who voted for the other songs are left 'disappointed'.

That's just the way survivor works, I suppose. If we had to wait until a song got more than 50% of the votes cast, it would make things a lot more complicated.

I tried running a modified survivor concept but votes died off really damn fast and I just assumed people were resistant to any kind of change, but yeah, I've never been a fan of the survivor format, oh well :lol
