Finally got around to seeing Bohemian Rhapsody, I really enjoyed it. The inaccuracies didn't bother me and I just enjoyed it as a movie.

Same here. The modifications to the actual story are annoying when you read them online, but when you're immersed in the movie it just flows nicely.... and come on, I dare anyone to reach the Live Aid scene and not clap your hands during Radio GaGa. I surely did.

As for me, last movie saw: Mortal Engines. Steampunk, post apocalyptic movie where civilization has collapsed after not-exactly-nuclear wars and now there are gigantic machines-cities roaming the earth. Classic story with the scavenger, the rebel, the reclutant hero etc but it plays out very nicely and there's a good world building, with Peter Jackson and the Lord of the Rings team involved. Better than many other blockbusters who are hyped way more than this.

I just saw "A Star is Born" and it was a very well done movie. I liked it better than Bohemian Rhapsody.

I just watched the Russian film "Night Watch". It was definitely a movie. Apparently, it was based on a book. Based on what I saw, I'm guessing it was one of those books where all the words have been cut out and replaced with a block of cocaine. This is what would happen if you gave a hyperactive 12 year old boy a lifetime supply of cocaine and an unlimited budget and had him make a Russian movie about vampires.

I'd give it a rating, but this film defies ratings. Is it a 0? Is it a 10? Do we need imaginary numbers to describe the quality of the movie? I don't know, but you should definitely watch it because this film is an experience. Is it a good experience or a bad one? Who knows? Who cares?

Finally saw Free Solo last night.  It was about what I expected.  I enjoyed it quite a bit.  I wish my wife could have watched, but even seeing some of those views of Alex up on a mountain just on a screen triggers her fear of heights and completely freaks her out.

I will say that what they showed of his relationship with Sanni McCandless kind of cast her in a negative light, and I'm sure has a lot of Alex's fans hating her.  She almost comes across as just the mindless g/f that is trying to domesticate him and get him to quit his lifestyle (and who, by the way, almost killed him).  That's unfortunate, because I don't think it is accurate and don't think it was intended.

But anyway, good documentary of this truly monumental (pun intended) achievement.  I wonder what else Alex has in him to try to do.

I did watch it with my missus. Lots of “What?? He’s crazy!”, “Why would anyone want to do that” type comments.  :lol

I think Sanni did come across as wanting to control him, to keep him safe from even attempting it, but Alex has a laser-like focus, and seemed to just let it wash over him. For those top guys, I don’t know if the desire to keep pushing themselves ever wears off.

My last movie was The Dirt. Weird, but entertaining enough. There was quite a few instances of breaking the 4th wall. It was like a strange hybrid of Wayne’s World and The Wolf Of Wall Street.

Boondock Saints 2

Good god this one sucked. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one, but part 2 is like a sick joke. The replacement for William Defoe has none of the same charm or charisma. The plot is contrived, forced and super corny. And Judd Nelson is playing a mafia boss  :rollin

Its a like a Sunday afternoon made for TV movie.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

It's the story of a kid with Asperger syndrome who loses his father in the 9/11 and tries to finalize one of the scavengers hunts / mysteries his father left him (he organized many quests around the town to make him go out and socialize more and face his difficulties to deal with strangers).

Nice and touching but way too long.... one of those movies that I can't see myself seeing for a second time.

We watched Aquaman as well.  The wife wanted to see it (of course!)  It was a massive GCI fest, the story was ridiculous and at least two levels more complicated than it needed to be, but whatever.  We were stoned as fuck so it was fun.

Aquaman.

Fun but no depth (so to speak).

Not as good as Wonder Woman, and not on the level of most Marvel films, but surely better than any of the other DC films.

I'm watching a movie called The Strange Love of Martha Ivers, it was released in 1946 and it's one of the last few movies that I was yet to see for one of my favorite actresses; Barbara Stanwyck.
The thing is, Kirk Douglas is in the movie, it kinda blows my mind that someone who's still alive, now co-starred in a movie made in 1946.

I saw the live action Dumbo last night. It was fine. I wasn't expecting a lot and it delivered on that. I was a cute enough kids movie I guess. Not the best Disney live-action remake.

I didn't realize how old his is.  He was 29 when that movie, which was his screen debut, was released.

Glass

It was very decent. I still love Unbreakable a whole lot more, but glass was a solid movie.

I just watched GLASS.

I don't know how to rank them, I love them all equally.

I'm trying to watch all of Scorsese's movies. I'm already familiar with Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs of New York, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street, but last week I watched Raging Bull and The Departed and was blown away. Last night I saw Taxi Driver for the first time as well, and it was great. I thought about watching The King of Comedy tonight, but now I'm watching Goodfellas for the billionth time, because Goodfellas is that damn good.

I saw "Shazam" on Friday and really enjoyed it. It wasn't as long as "Aquaman" and in terms of atmosphere it was as far removed from "Batman v Superman" as you can imagine. That's a good thing. DC is finally finding their niche. The villain was a bit flat but other than that I have no complaints.

Finally saw Glass. Fun movie.

Oh and The Dirt.  I only ever had the one album by Motley Crue (Theatre of Pain, was more of a RATT-fan) but I gotta say I enjoyed that a hell of a lot more then I expected.
And that ending....pfew.

Keeping up with the Scorsesethon, last night I watched The King of Comedy. That was so uncomfortable. It's not one of my favorite Scorsese flicks by a long shot, but it was entertaining and De Niro gave a spellbinding performance as a guy who just. can't. take. a. hint. "Better to be king for a night than schmuck for a lifetime!" What really turned this from 'good' to 'really good' was his stand-up performance at the end. He completely disappeared into character, actually became a stand-up comedian and did the whole routine. His mannerisms, delivery, etc. was spot-on for an old school style comic and I was very impressed by it. Many times I forgot I was watching De Niro in the part. But there are some really freaking weird moments in that movie. Sandra Bernhard is compelling as a stalker, and is very creepy. Although the cinematography wasn't at the same level as Taxi Driver or Raging Bull, there were a lot of good shots in the film, just nothing awe-inspiring. Good movie. Glad I watched it.

In my ever long quest to catch up to classics I never ever seen, it was the turn of This is Spinal Tap.

It was glorious as I expected it to be. I was surprised at how actually the band was good in the end - for the little I knew of the movie, I though they were an extreme parody and that they'd suck, but the songs are actually cool, in an exagerated, dial up the parody to 11 (see what I did there) way  :lol

Took me more than a half hour to realize that the lead singer was no one else than Michael McKean.

The Mrs. and I finally watched The Mule on Saturday night. Good film. I mean, with Clint Eastwood, it usually is.

I just saw it this last Friday.  Overall, I thought it was really good.  In many ways, it was exactly what I was expecting.  In others, it was quite different.  I was expecting it to be the typical disaster film where the protagonist makes a risky and bad decision in the beginning, and then makes progressively worse decisions to try to avoid the ever escalating series of potential consequences of each progressively escalating bad decision.  And in some ways, it was that.  But not really.  What was present and really worked here was the personal aspect and the significantly weighty redemption arc of Earl's character.  The only thing that felt a little off to me was the final 15 minutes or so of the film.  The events seemed to happen too quickly without enough build.  And with the excellent deliberately slow pacing of most of the rest of the film, it felt like they were rushing to get to the end.  Coupled with that, I was a little surprised that there was no hint of the cartel targeting Earl's family, which seemed a little odd.  I mean, I get that that would have been kind of secondary.  But it didn't feel realistic that they never dealt with the fact that after getting busted and losing such a huge cargo, the cartel apparently wasn't interested in going after Earl's family or going after him in prison.  But all in all, minor gripes.  I was expecting a pretty decent movie, and I got a VERY good movie.

I completely agree with you about the pacing of the final 15 minutes. Way too fast, which is a shame. I think they were probably given a time limit, and left a lot on the cutting room floor. Also agree about the cartel not targeting Earl's family. That would have been the play. But I excused it, given the upheaval the cartel also had. Who was reporting to who and why, that confusion, the fact that Earl appealed to the middle men, etc. I was pleased.

I think they could have dealt with it pretty handily by maybe dropping some things in there about how even the cartel didn't know who Earl really was in terms of his actual identity beyond being a mule, his family, etc.  And a throwaway line about him being set up with protection in prison.  It might have seemed like a little bit of a stretch.  But at least it wouldn't have left such an obvious thread dangling with not even a hint of explanation.  Oh well.  :dunno:

His interactions with Julio were gold.  I distinctly remember two laugh out loud moments in the film.  The first was when Julio and his henchman were following along behind Earl with the recording device in Earl's truck, and the henchman starts singing along with "Ain't That a Kick in the Head."  That one actually had me giggling on and off for a few minutes afterward.  The second was when they stopped for lunch, with Julio and his guy visibly irritated and ready to take Earl out publicly, and then he tells them that the reason they are there is because it is the best pulled pork sandwich in the entire midwest, and then they hesitate, take a bit, and both give expressions of approval.  :lol  Actually, I have to give Ignacio Serricchio  props as a whole for his role as Julio in the film.  He started out as what looked like it was going to be a one-dimensional character, but actually ended up portraying a pretty broad range and convincing character arc of his own.

It was pretty awesome. Interesting take on the character, going with the younger version. A little frantic in places, but very good overall. The humor was great.  LOVED Keaton, as I do with all his performances.

Surprisingly really good. I can't believe I slept on it at the time.

If you want an excellent murder mystery "who done it" kind of film with an excellent cast, then I definitely recommend this film.
