The Perfect Host
Just randomly remembered this movie last night because it had David Hyde Pierce in it, so decided to watch it, and really enjoyed it. No character is quite what they seem to be, and it didn't play out as I expected. But man, Niles Crane really went downhill without Frasier around. :neverusethis:

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Swedish version)

Not usually my kind of movie, but I enjoyed it. For a longer movie of this genre, I didn't feel it dragged, and the pacing was good. I might watch the US version now just to compare them, as the consensus seems to be that it's as good.

I watched the trailer for the US version afterwards, and it seemed a bit more....blunt? I dunno. I might just watch the sequels instead.

I just watched it too.  Very funny.

The Rock and Kevin Hart work very very well together.  I can see a sequel being made for sure.

Steven King's Needful Things

Without max von sydow, this would have just been a so so movie, but his performance made it a pretty decent watch.

I've always enjoyed that movie, but I get what you mean about the weak performances. I'd totally recast it, except for Leland Gaunt. Donald Sutherland would make an awesome Gaunt, too.

Green Room. Very tense and upsetting movie, I thought the violence would turn me off as I don't like unnecessary gore but I thought it was very well done in the movie. Very gripping throughout and well made.

Speaking of Crowe - he hasn't been in the news for years for being violent or anything. Used to be all the time. Same with Colin farrell.

Seems they might have mellowed a bit.

Indeed.

To me it felt like a modern day The Great Lebowski. Not in terms of plot or anything, but rather the feel of it.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

I thought this would be funnier, but it really wasn't.  A couple of minor chuckles, but overall, not very good.   And its never a good thing when you are constantly watching how much time is left on a movie.

X-Men: Apocalypse. Definitely the weakest of the so called trilogy. I think it suffers from many of the issues that plagued The Last Stand. Too many characters and not enough depth to justify. Granted many of the characters are already known but seeing how they're the origin I think they should've been either cut out of given some more development. Also didn't like Mystique's role in this movie. I thought her character was badly written, felt more like an afterthought.

I generally prefer the Swedish version, but I have to say that the soundtrack of the US version is really amazing. Not sure if you'd dig it though, but it definitely heightened my enjoyment of the US version.

I watched the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the entire trilogy before watching the Hollywood version. I think the Fincher version is a much better made movie, it's also very well acted and just all round better executed. I haven't read the book but the consensus seems that it also follows the book more faithfully than the Swedish version. Obviously the Swedish ones were made for TV so they don't have high production values. I think the music, the editing and the story telling are all better IMO in the Fincher version.

Interesting. I wouldn't have guessed that a US version would be more faithful to the source material. I also didn't know the Swedish ones were made for TV. I'm so used to the production values of foreign movies being all over the map, so I didn't even give it a thought. I probably should have figured it out by the year of release of the three movies though.

Four Rooms.  I hadn't seen it in YEARS, but found it on Amazon Prime this morning.

It's uneven, but fun.  Tim Roth is great, and it features what may be Antonio Banderas's finest role.

Anyone see the new trailer for Power Rangers?

As someone who grew up on it......it doesn't look bad. It's obviously still a family movie, but the direction they're going in is pretty cool. The idea of the teens all being social outcasts rather than perfect kids, and Angel Grove being a dying city rather than a utopia is pretty cool.

Thoughts?
