For me it's basically Seth Rogan + anyone within two degrees of separation of being in a movie with Seth Rogan. :lol
I cannot bear Ricky Gervais in anything.

I liked The Office and Extras at the time but there was something off about him.

Definitely these two. I won't watch anything with either of them in it.

Actually, not specifically comedy-related, but add J-Lo to my "unwatchable" list. Not a fan.

I have nothing against her, but I haven't watched any of her movies just based on having no interest in the types of movies she's in. Although maybe the lack of watching her is the reason I have no problem with her. :lol

I hear you. I'm not a massive fan of rom-coms, but put it this way: if I have to watch one, I'd rather watch one with somebody else in it..

I generally don't get into rom-coms, but I saw one with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts (who I can't fucking stand) and it was pretty good - Larry Crowne. I think it's the Tom Hanks thing. I've always been a fan of his and generally like anything he does.

Yeah, Tom Hanks would be in my list of 27%ers.

The one exception would be the Da Vinci Code movies - he wasn't the right casting choice for those movies at all.

Yeah that was a head scratcher. Maybe just because he is friends with Ron Howard - another weird choice for director.

Like - Ron Howard made Apollo 13 - and the Da Vince Code movies are just mumbo jumbo schlock.

I thought he did well with that role. That's not to say I wasn't surprised to see him cast in the part. It's like seeing Tom Cruise cast as Lestat and scratching your head, but afterwards you were impressed.

I liked Larry Crowne:tup
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Agreed. The ending got a bit too artsy for me but I enjoyed the rest of the movie so much that it really didn't bug me.

Went to the drive-in tonight! First was Storks, which was silly. Then Sully, which was pretty good. Then Sausage Party, which is mostly fucking stupid but had a few good moments.

Speaking of stupid, I watched Burying the Ex the other day..  which I think stars the girl in your avatar/sig, John? What a dumb movie! But it helped me turn my brain off.

Saw Blood Father with Mel Gibson today. It was good. Nothing really special, but a completely fine action-ish/drama.

Is that anything like My Cousin Vinny? I assume not since you didn't give it a 10/10.

Yep. My mistake.

I don't think it is an essential / masterpiece / I-can-watch-a-thousand-times-that-I-never-get-tired type of movie

It is very good and that's it.

The Magnificent Seven

Might be the most fun popcorn flick this year since Captain America: Civil War. Great chemistry from the cast that includes Denzel Washington, Christ Pratt, and Ethan Hawke. The film was shot well. Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, King Arthur, The Equalizer) is usually a hit or miss for me, but one thing that he always does well is the look of the film. This is the second Magnificent Seven movie; third remake of Seven Samurai. The other one is none other than Pixar's A Bug's Life.

You forgot about Battle Beyond the Stars!!!

Yeah I actually really loved the Magnificent Seven - I'd completely agree with you regarding the Civil War comment.  Sure it's a bit more action than the original, but it still takes time to breath and give the characters time to develop.

Finally watched The Martian over the weekend. Amazing film.
Also watched Hellraiser. First time I've seen the film in it's entirety. Pretty good. My wife hated it. Is the sequel any good?

I thought the Hellraiser sequel was pretty good.

Spent a big chunk of time on the TYS tour bus yesterday and watched most of From Dusk Till Dawn, Lock Stock, and like half of Pulp Fiction. Unexpected mini-marathon :lol

I need to rewatch Lock, Stock again because I hadn't seen it in a long time and didn't remember much.

A local theater is showing Dark City on Friday and I think I'm gonna go to that! Have only seen that once on a laptop, so big screen would be cool.

Swiss Army Man. I thought it was awesome. This year is a really weird one, two of my top 3 movies so far are comedies, something I usually pay very little attention to.

The sequel is just as good imo. It has even more freaky imagery. I wouldn't bother with the others.

I really liked the story of Hellraiser, but the odd special effects were really distracting. I know they were a cheap budget effects package but in contrast The Thing is around the same era and it didn't seem that bad in comparison. I'll have to give the sequels a watch.

Some funny parts, but overall not that good
