Re-watched The Matrix for the first time in awhile. Still a top 10 film.
Yeah, that first one still holds up.  A true classic.

When that first came out it was SO different from any other movie....the fight sequences and action and camera tricks and angles. It really set the bar for the next batch of action type movies. And as you guys mention...it holds strong.

I didn't mind the sequels per say but they felt rushed and more like an obligation. they didn't deliver that same 'feel' the first one had at all.

I still maintain the third matrix is better than the second one - which adds next to nothing bar a load

of new characters which do largely nothing consequential.

You could have put one or two scenes from Reloaded in Revolutions and had one decent sequel instead

of two meh ones.

But Revolutions is better than Reloaded.

Without a doubt.

Also it is alleged that The Wachowskis stole the first Matrix - which is why the sequels are so convoluted - they had to write them from scratch themselves and they tried to cram in loads of philosophy

and existentialism.

The first one is a masterpiece.   The other 2 are good but not at the level of the original.

Deep Cover... early nineties neo-noir, way more enjoyable than I expected. Total cheesefest in a good way. Dialogue is awesome, from the impromptu poetry to lines like "You ain't had pussy since pussy had you" :lol... towards the end the story got a bit weird, but for the most part it was great.

I found the second one was still quite enjoyable with some new ideas and great action sequences, despite stretching the Matrix computer metaphor way too far.
The third one was just painfully drawn out and dull and manages to ruin a robot fight. How they managed to make robots so boring, I don't know.

But both are totally unnecessary and would have been better left as a single classic movie.

X-Men Apocalypse. Not bad at all. Nog as good as Civil War, but still.

Not a movie, but this morning I was channel surfing and found an old episode of the syndicated show Freddie's Nightmares from the late 80s.  This episode featured a young Brad Pitt, who was much too good for the material he was working with.

I lol'd.

speaking of this movie, the two main characters of the watership down remake coming in 2017 are xavier and beast from that movie.

David Fincher's Zodiac

I love Fincher
I love crime/mystery thrillers

But still just don't like zodiac as much as I wish I did. Its hard to invest almost 3 hours in a film that has no definitive ending. I guess that's just an inevitable risk when adapting real life events. In contrast, a movie like Seven is sleek, balanced, well paced with an ending that knocks your socks off an provides closure. In the fictional world, you can polish to perfection.

I still respect this Zodiac though.

For the First Time: Schindler's List.

I've put this off for quite some time because I'm not a fan of sitting through three hours of this type of misery, however well crafted a film it is. As expected it was a great movie, but probably one I will never watch again.

I liked Schindler's List.  Ralph Fiennes made you really hate Amon Goeth and it was so much better when he got what he deserved.

Probably one of my top 5 films. It's absolutely terrifying what Ralph Fiennes has managed to do with his role.

Great movies but just to gut wrenching to watch again.

I get it.  I first saw it in the theater at release, and found it to be completely masterful, captivating, and incredibly well made on all levels, from the writing and directing to the cinematography and acting.  But I'm not sure I will ever purposely sit down to watch the entire film ever again.

I watched this one fairly recently as well. I think it's a rather decent movie. I really enjoy the gritty style it's filmed in and the feeling of rawness it has because of it. Not a great one overall, but perfectly fine.

The Conjuring 2

I never saw the first one, but some friends wanted to see this one so what the hell. I ended up really enjoying it. It wasn't overly scary, but it was very engaging as a movie and had some seriously cool moments. Second best of the year so far, behind Civil War.

I found the first one to be pretty meh, I fell asleep during it actually. Hope the second one is better, planning to go see it after my exams are finished.

For the First Time: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Very entertaining and quite enjoyable movie most of the time. I think 16th best movie ever (IMDb top 250) is pushing it, but I thought it was very good.

Now You See Me.

A very fun and entertaining movie, great action and belieavable enough to suspend disbelief, but it tried too hard to be too much clever with the ending twist. The movie is about magicians and I guess that they tried to have the trick too grandiose, and so the result was convoluted. Speaking in general terms (in case someone might want to see it) I would have accepted if it was her, it actually made sense if it was her - there were very slight clues about it - , but when it was who it was, well, there's a fine point between a shocking twist and fooling your own audience.

Still, it was great and I'm now interested in the sequel!

I heard that the ending borders on sci fi so that the whole magician facade falls apart.

Damn, what an awesome action movie. Classic Arnie all the way. Good one liners, violent deaths, and plenty of biceps. The Australian dude playing Bennett made everything sound kind of rapey and creepy, even creepier when dealing with a young Alyssa Milano. :lol
