I swear I remember reading somewhere that he actually learned guitar for this movie.

If that's true then it shows because he's not very good at all.

I can't tell if you're being serious here.

Then don't say anything.

Jack Black is a pretty famous musician. He didn't learn guitar for the movie.

I'm not really a fan, but if you're going to bash or insult the dude, it would be helpful to at least google him first.

I thought it was pretty well-known that he was a musician prior to School of Rock.

It may be, but I knew of Jack Black as an actor long before I'd ever heard of Tenacious D.  And I still don't know how seriously I take him as a musician, but that's partly because I've never bothered to listen to Tenacious D.  Is there Jack Black solo work as well?  If so, I probably won't bother with that, either.

Jack Black is a musician in a novelty band. Kyle is the talented one who plays all the tricky stuff.  He doesn't have to be a good musician to be in a novelty band.

EDIT : i dun goofed.

Wait, what?  Tenacious D is the name of the band.  Tenacious D is not "a musician".  It's a duo comprised of Jack Black and Kyle Gass.

Beyond that, I think I agree with you.  Because they've never come across as serious to me, I never took them seriously, and thus never took Jack Black seriously as a musician.

Well, Jack had a solo career for a long time, but then he and Kyle made ammends after a tragic event, and (with the help of Dave Grohl) they were able to come out stronger than ever.

Here is a video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nai7w1frB1E

Can't believe you've never seen it. So many brilliant lines..

Lori Quaid: Doug, honey... you wouldn't hurt me, would you, sweetheart? Sweetheart, be reasonable. After all, we're married!
[Lori goes for her gun, Quaid shoots her in the head]
Doug Quaid: Consider that a divorce!

The original Alien movie scared the crap out of me.  It came on HBO 1980 and I was 12 and watched it through my fingers.

First time I saw Jaws was when it came on TV when I was about 7 or so.

While on vacation.

At the beach.

Rock the Kasbah with Bill Murray, and Macbeth, the latest one with Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.

The first was fine, funny but nothing to write home about, the second was good, I didn't mind the change of the meaing of "Birnam Wood coming to Dunsinane" but I would have liked for Macbeth to actually fight in the end. Still it was a very nice scenery among all that fiery smoke.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

I can't believe it either. I've never noticed it on TV, so either they don't show it often here, or I've just managed to continually miss it, but I loved it. Totally worth the $3 I paid for it on DVD!

Taken - It happened to be on TV, and I've never bothered to watch it. It was better than I expected, very good, although I expected it would be good. I usually find fight scenes boring, but they were all excellently choreographed, and it's refreshingly satisfying to have a protagonist who isn't too pussy to just shoot everyone in the head. So satisfying.

As The Gods Will - A Japanese horror movie that sorta reminded me of Battle Royale, if it had cutesy bad guys killing everyone. Pretty awesome, although the opening scene was the best. It set up a sequel at the end, but I don't know if that's happening. I would have expected there to be one by now given how quickly Japan makes sequels for this type of movie.

Yep.  Basically, he goes on a mission and kills a bunch of guys along the way, and that could have been really cheesy and boring, but it wasn't.  No Steven Seagal smarmy "I'm so awesome look at me killing at these guys" or Sylvester Stallone "I'm so badass look at me killing all these guys", just Liam calmly doing what he has to do because these assholes took his daughter, plus he warned them.

They're very different movies, each a product of their times.  And it's weird how well it works because Tron was made so long ago and it's really obvious.  But somehow they came up with a story that works pretty well for Tron Legacy. I recommend seeing the original, but you really have to go into it with an open mind and a good perspective that it was made in 1982 and was freaking amazing then.

We had watching parties for original Tron.  I didn't think I'd like Tron Legacy, but I did more than I thought I would.

The last movie I saw in the theater was Spotlight.  It was excellent.  Not an easy subject matter for certain.  The ending was very powerful and it literally rendered the audience paralyzed in their seats.  I've never seen that happen before.

I love the traditional badass action heroes, but I think grounding this with the more personal motivation made this even more badass in many ways. He didn't care what happened to himself or anyone else, all he cared about was making sure his daughter was safe. Usually when a good guy holds a gun to someone to persuade them to do something, it's a fairly idle threat, but he even shot that dude's wife. Hard. Core.

Good point.  Special forces guys and secret agents are supposed to be badass.  That's their job.  But this was personal, family, infinitely more important than just doing a job, and they fucked with the wrong guy.

I've never seen either of the sequels, but from what I've heard about them, I may just leave it that way.
