Silly teen movie but I love it. Campy, funny but has heart.

"I want my 2 dollars!"

That line goes to what Kev is saying.

I LOVE that movie.  That may be the quintessential "you had to be there" movie.

An all-time fave for my wife and I.

I dunno if I can be bothered going to see Bond in the cinema. I know what happens and it's like 2.75 hours long.

I'll probably wait til it's on DVD. I'm not that fussed.

However - Matrix Resurrections is a 100% seeing it on the biggest screen I can occasion.

This will be the next movie I see in the theater. I have all the streaming services and quite enjoy the movie watching set up we have here at home. It gets the job done.

But.....anything Star Wars or Matrix I need/want to see in the theater for the first watch.

I don't know why. It's not like Reloaded and Resurrections were outstanding- but I REALLY want this to be good.

I am hopeful. It looks like it will be a really Meta movie - which is cool with me.

It looks like it has footage from the OG movie IN the actual film. Which will be interesting to see why.

Obviously it looks like it will be a commentary on 'hey man iDevices are the real Matrix'... As long as its not really snobby

and Hey Man - get off your phones man ! We've all had F ALL to do for the last 18 months but sit indoors on our devices.

I'll see it if it comes to my local cinema 3 mins walk from my house...

But I really don't care about the previous incarnations of Spider Man.

It looks like they're just doing Into The Spider Verse but live action.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Marvel does it again.  Very entertaining.  Will watch again.

The Postman Always Rings Twice

#Noirvember continues.  I can definitely see why this one attained the reputation it did, but I think it may not have aged as well as the other films noir I've watched this month (The Maltese Falcon and Sunset Boulevard, if you aren't keep up lol).  Of course, Lana Turner is easy on the eyes, and a young Hume Cronyn chewed up the scenery every time he was on screen.  Entertaining, but did hit the mark set by the other two.

Ace in the Hole (1951)

#Noirvember continues with another one I had never seen.  I enjoyed this one very much.  Directed by the great Billy Wilder, it stars Kirk Douglas in a fantastic performance as a down-on-his-luck reporter looking for a big break with a large newspaper.  Fantastic commentary on how the news can create the story, rather than simply report it.

That's disappointing.  I hadn't even heard that there was a new movie, but if I had, I would probably have predicted that it wouldn't be that funny.  I too am a fanboy, but the movies have really failed to recapture the magic of the original TV run.  The first one was okay, but the second was not great.  I'll check out this one at some point, but at least I know it's not a high priority.

Mission Impossible. The first one. Yup, never saw it.

Now I can contextualize better those famous scenes I always knew like Tom Cruise being suspended with wires in a white room, or the explosion of the helicopter flunging him towards a train  :D

Key Largo (1948)

#Noirvember continued with this outstanding film, starring the wonderful pairing of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, along with Edward G. Robinson, and directed by John Huston.  Just a great, great film.

Red Notice (2021)

I mean, there were some fun action sequences, and it looked like the triumverate of A-list stars had a good time making the film.  But I wouldn't say that it was GOOD.  Watched with the family, and we had a good time, so it served its purpose.

Crime of Passion (1957)

More #Noirvember with this interesting gem starring Barbara Stanwyck, Sterling Hayden, and Raymond Burr.  Not my favorite of these older films, but definitely enjoyable.  Fans may remember Haden more from his brief but memorable role as Captain McCluskey in The Godfather.

To Have And Have Not (1944)

#Noirvember continues with this gem, another starring Bogart and Bacall, also featuring Walter Brennan.  The film is directed by the legendary Howard Hawks, adapted from the novel by Ernest Hemingway, who also worked on the script, as did William Faulkner, making this the only film in history to include two winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature on the writing team.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film.  It totally deserves its classic reputation.  To give a little context, this is the film that has Lauren Bacall say "You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow."

FYI, I'm a Hemingway fan, and I have read the original novel, and the film is more enjoyable for me.

I require no refresher.

I was ultimately disappointed by Ghostbusters Afterlife. I had a good time, but the nostalgia fell flat, as did the ending.

Well...the original was not free on any streaming service that I have, so I didn't see it, but I did go see the new one.  It wasn't perfect,* but it was REALLY, REALLY good.  In particular, the Phoebe character was fantastic.  I may go see it again.

* - I thought they overdid the ghost Harold Ramis stuff at the end to the point that it became a bit gratuitous.  Also, while I liked the cameos from Akroyd, Murray and Hudson, I would have preferred slightly less of them at the end.

I also watched Jungle Cruise on Disney+.  VERY disappointing.

You know how we all have a couple movies like this? One of mine is It's A Wonderful Life, even though it's easily been 20 years since I've seen it. Had the house to myself tonight, which is a very rare occasion, and have been feeling like my life is particularly not wonderful lately, so decided to watch this.

The end never failed to make me weepy, especially one specific part. Tonight I started getting choked up at the beginning when the townspeople were saying their prayers for George. Never got emotional 4 minutes in to a movie before.
