I'm watching the original Austin Powers. It has one of my favorite dad jokes as he's walking into the casino and points out a random dude:

"Hey, there you are!"
"Do I know you?"
"No, but that's where you are, you're there!"

Nice icebreaker too  :lol

Jojo Rabbit.

Fantastic, funny and touching, and absolutely recommended.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

They still hold up. The first one looks a bit dated but it's still funny as heck.

I've still never seen any of the Austin Powers movies.  Someday...

Recently saw The Sandlot for the first time.  Fun little flick.

Ford vs. Ferrari

Holy crap, that was a good film.

I think Matt Damon is a better actor at this stage in his career than he ever has been.  Which is all you can ask, I suppose.

My kid LOVED it, and marveled at how well a lot of the visual effects still held up.

It did feel light years ahead of the 1st film at the time.  Man, I haven't watched it in a while.

Jackie Brown.

At some point I realized that I'd seen every Tarantino movie except this one (and the one from last year) so I rectified that situation.  Pretty good flick.  Tarantino characters, dialogue, plot, subplots, plots twists, all that good stuff.  Now I just have to catch Once Upon a Time sometime.

Five beach towels out of five.  Would watch again.

Escape From New York
Escape From L.A.

I have no recollection of having seen them before. The first one was clearly the best. The second one had pretty laughable effects.

The first one is a classic and helped put Kurt Russell on the map as an action guy, or at least not a Disney kid anymore.

The second one was dumb unnecessary sequel because dumb unnecessary sequels still make money, so they keep making 'em.

Escape from LA is so bad, and occasionally fun, but I have to give them credit for the ending.

House on Haunted Hill (1959)

Sherlock Holmes (2009)

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941)

Fun fact about the ending to Escape from LA. Kurt Russell wrote the ending Himself.

It's been so long now, I don't even remember Escape from L.A.  I just remember watching it with the guys and all of us laughing at how bad it was.  I'm sure we were all far from sober as well.  In other words, I don't remember the ending.  And that's causing some inner turmoil because now I'm tempted to watch it again.

I adore Jackie Brown.  Ask me on any given day what my favorite QT movie is, and the answer will always be Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown or Inglorious Basterds.  And I suspect if I was asked this 100 times, Jackie Brown would win by like 40-30-30.

It's Kind of a Funny Story

Zach Galifinakis is quite good in this, in a serious/dramatic role. After seeing/being won over seeing Zoe Kravitz for 8 hours in High Fidelity, I'm almost shocked how different she looks in this, some 10 years younger.

The movie itself was good, had a coming-of-age/heart warming story arc.

The biggest beef though is the Vomit scenes. If anyone seeks this one out, maybe fast-fwd/skip the scenes where the lead character is eating, which happens at least 4 or 5 times.

Last night I watched The Towering Inferno.

Once again, a movie I have no recollection of having seen before. It was really great, and well made too. Great acting from Steve McQueen and Paul Newman in particular.

I'm guessing it must have been one of the first major disaster movies (1974)?

Saw that when I was like 7 years old. Strongly remember it from childhood.

If you liked that, I would recommend the original Poseidon adventure. It was made around the same time and has the same vibe.

The Dark Crystal, to see if I would be interested in watching the TV series on Netflix.

Very, very dated, but I'm quite sure back in its day was a technological marvel and a masterclass in puppetry.

Thoughts?

Or is the review invisible too? Cause that’d be pretty meta.

Yep, both are Irwin Allen movies.  For a while there, he was the king of "disaster movies".  That's what we called them; basically a genre of their own.

Knives Out

I thought it was awesome.  Murder mystery in the classic style, but completely aware that it is and with some self-aware jabs, and some good twists as well.  Daniel Craig was awesome.  Hell, everyone in the cast was awesome.  Laughed out loud a few times, yelled "Whoa!" out loud a few times.  It's On Demand so we have it for 48 hours.  We might watch it again because movies like this can be extra fun the second time around because you know the twists and can appreciate what's going on and what's being said on another level.
