I have absolutely no desire to watch that.

Memento was brilliant. Psychological films are in my Top 5 as far as genres along with movies about con men/heists, film noir, fairytales, and fantasy.

I ended up trying to watch Sausage Party last night

I didn't find it even remotely funny and didn't even finish it.

:hifive: High Fives all around.

I didn't even go back a page to see which movie you were talking about. There's enough there in that comment for me to say that I agree.  :lol

Absolutely! I'm re-reading LOTR at the minute, the last time I read it being way before the movies came out. What has struck me is how well the filmmakers captured the spirit of the book. Quite a lot of the movie dialogue is lifted straight off the page.

My last movie watched is The Fundamentals Of Caring. A great little movie, quirky, with some challenging thoughts on how we view disability.

Finally got to watch All the President's Men. Such an amazing movie, I can see how Spotlight took inspiration from it.

Have you ever read the other books, besides The Hobbit? I reopened a thread earlier about his other books.

Platoon. God what an amazing movie, I'm a sucker for all war movies and can't believe how long I've waited to watch this one. Right now I'm in a mood to watch older movies from the 70s and 80s. Next on the list is Chinatown, another classic that I've been waiting forever to watch.

Just saw "Arrival".  Definitely a cerebral movie.  Over all I enjoyed it but my sneaking suspicion as with most adapted movies, is that the book is much better.

That's one of the best war movies I've ever seen. Chinatown is a gem of a movie as well. Film noir at its best.

Saw Taken 3 on TV. The second movie was a decent step down from the first one, and this one was quite a bit lower than that.
Even after proving his innocence in the end, shouldn't they arrest him for all of the other shit he did in the process? :lol The first two movies had that too, but I excuse the first one because he was in a foreign country and basically got away with it. In this one, the cops saw everything he did and at the end they were just like whatever. Plus the second and third movies are so watered down in violence, it's kinda lame.

I enjoy the first one for what it is, but I thought that the second was fairly meh. As a result I haven't gotten around to Taken 3 myself, yet.

Don't bother. Taken 2 was like an average watered down rehash of the first movie, although I still found it watchable enough, but the third one even lacked that appeal.

Took a break from classic movies to re-watch Ant-Man. I liked it a lot more on second watch and was a lot more fun than I remembered. I think they nailed the tone of the movie with it being a good balance of candor and seriousness without making it overly sentimental.

Love and Mercy - Really great performances, even if the narrative could have been a lot stronger. Paul Dano and John Cusack both gave amazing performances, and Paul Giamotti was terrifying.

Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome

Not a very good movie, but still an amusing way to kill some time. I was a little disappointed that for a movie named after the thunderdome, it does not appear again or get mentioned after the first 40 minutes. I demand more thunderdome! I was waiting for the movie to end with an epic thunderdome battle to the death between Mel Gibson and Tina Turner, but it never happened. I feel a bit cheated. But it did have a monkey sidekick, and a midget, so it wasn't a complete loss.

But it went too far beyond thunderdome, like an hour beyond it.  :'(

Jason Bourne.

It's basically the same film over and over but hey, it's still top quality and it's always fun to see Bourne outsmarting everyone single-handedly, I'm sure there are pages dedicated to point out at least 70 things that make no sense in the movie but I still enjoyed it. The chase scene in Vegas was so over the top that I was almost laughing (in the good sense) throughout it.

I recently saw Girl on the Train. Man, that was a great movie. I really enjoyed the psychological aspects of the whole thing. Emily Blunt did an amazing job as Rachel Watson - she really played the broken, alcoholic wreck of a person that Rachel is beautifully. My onle gripe is that it should have ended about five minutes earlier (for those who have seen it: directly after Rachel and Anna kill Tom), but that was my only gripe. Definitely recommended to anybody who likes a good psychological thriller.

This is probably the first time I've heard something good about Girl on the Train as a whole.

Seeing Hacksaw Ridge tonight and am very excited.

The Love Witch- strange and fun movie. Very visually pretty!

Also saw Dr. Strange the other night. Enjoyed it a lot but didn't love it as much as a lot of folk seemed to. Tilda Swinton is the shit.

Seen a few new movies over the last week.

First, Hacksaw Ridge, which was fantastic. So far my #1 of this year.

Then the latest Jason Bourne movie, which was fine, but ultimately felt pointless and a bit dull.

And lastly Kubo and the Two Strings, which was mostly really really cool, but was bogged down by a few things. Namely an a bit awkwardly obvious and way too coincidental "twist" and an ending so cheesy it completely took me out of the experience. Everything but that though was pretty awesome.

Oh, and I saw Hell or High Water too. Can't believe I forgot about that because I really liked it. It really seemed that that movie was directed with a lot of care and thought put in to it. I didn't expect that, so I think that's why I noticed it.

Devil in Miss Jones, seventies porn with an actual plot and good acting! Really enjoyed it.

Also saw a ridiculous film about Bigfoot rape made by a local dude, which was hilarious. It's called Ape Canyon. Just... wow.
