Programming myself a tool to test the... "mechanics" for this roulette to make sure they're balanced enough. What could be behind that black bar? :corn

I feel the exact same way :lol. Hell I don't even want to do a hangman, all this complexity people have been doing is really neat but has put me off running a roulette cause I just wanna here some tunes.

Oh believe me there will be very little brainpower required for everyone except me. :neverusethis:

I don't like complexity when it requires too much from the players - having to constantly keep tabs on hangman, send before other people, do a bunch of different steps per round, etc. For mine, there will be one additional step after sending your song, and that's it.

I feel the exact same way :lol. Hell I don't even want to do a hangman, all this complexity people have been doing is really neat but has put me off running a roulette cause I just wanna here some tunes.

Nothing wrong with a simple, no-gimmicks roulette if that's what you want to run. Hangman is pretty much just for keeping discussion going in the middle of rounds, so if you're fine with things being quieter, it's by no means necessary.

I think there has been a little pressure (for me anyway, I put on myself), that the bar just keeps getting upped you feel you need to compete and hence to overdo things.  Again, a me issue but keeping it simple isn't a bad thing.  If you're on a good routine getting scores out and keeping it moving, there can be limited down time between a quick hangman and some impressions.

I agree some of the focus may have shifted from the songs themselves into games, gimmicks and trying to keep things interesting.  I think if you do one, just do you.  I never intended to do straight hangman each round anyway but going back to basics as opposed to trying to overdo things isn't a bad thing.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

I've got two ideas for roulettes. One very simple, the other a little more complex. Not sure which I'm gonna do first.

I almost replied sooner and got distracted, but I've thought about this off and on since then, and more today, so I figured I'd just toss it out since its still relevant.  The roulette themes and shenanigans can be creative and fun at times, but I do feel lately they've tended to take center stage and actual music discovery sometimes feels like an afterthought.  Personally I don't mind some roulettes just being more straightforward.  Or a mix of the two.  Themes can sometimes make things more interesting and conjure cool stuff you might not have thought of sending otherwise, but they can also box people into sending suboptimal songs.

thinking i'm half-interested in running a mini-roulette sometime that's restricted only to electronic or adjacent music, people here have sent me good stuff along that lines and it'd be nice to run a rankdown that's not getting bogged down with generic prog metal song #588 every round, idk  :lol

:rollin

As someone who did an electronic-only roulette too, making it shorter than usual is probably a good idea; I don't think most people on here have enough stuff to send for 8 straight rounds of that. :lol
