I decided to start it in a couple of weeks. I got sick which made me even lazier than I am and I'm going to Florida so I won't be able to keep up with the thread.

I've been thinking about starting a new roulette. But I'm not that good in doing writeups :P I might come up with something to made it easier for me and still provide some kind of feedback. Anyone interested?

Nothing to apologize for - I was mostly teasing/razzing.  The running joke is that many of us are so eager to share music in this game/format, we jump on any/every chance as quickly as possible.  Back in the mid 2010s, we used to have a sign-up list for people to run a Roulette, one that would often be a year's wait or so after we implemented a (courtesy) rule of only having 3 Roulette's running at a time.

Now, it seems there's rarely more than one going at a time, and I think there have been gaps of time where none were running.

So, if you want to host one, knock yourself out - you'll not likely have any problems soliciting participation... the only potential hiccup being that nobody here 'knows' you or your musical tastes.

Yeah, but isn’t that the fun? Discovering new music thanks to other people?
I may take one up after ReaperKK’s is done. I’m enjoying that one, and it gives me a better read in the situation to watch it meet it’s conclusion, from the view of a participant,  first.

Abso-fucking-lutely.  I just know that for myself, personally ... it's less gratifying when I'm sending music that the host finds very little enjoyment in.  Additionally, I know others have not had the best time submitting to me in the past because our tastes were just so far out of sync.  Hence the comment of at least having some idea of where your tastes lie.  I mean, if you're into all those genres that need the word "alt" or "core" to describe them, all the power to you.  But I wouldn't be your huckleberry.

I might stick up a short summary of “this is my current tastes” but I’m honestly into all sorts of different music.
And alt, core, anything that needs to differentiate these titles aren’t exactly where I find myself. Prog is probably the oddest term that finds itself in my musical vocab, and I’m assuming we’re safe since this is, after all, the Dream Theater Forums!

One thing I'd recommend for your first roulette is to not go overboard on the number of rounds / participants - depending on your tastes / how many artists you have banned you might get 15+ participants and literal hours of music each round, which can be a lot to deal with. To not risk your roulette taking forever (or potentially never finishing), you might want to do a smaller roulette with only 5-6 rounds and potentially a cap on the number of participants. By the end of it you should have a better idea of how long it takes you to process and critique music, and you could potentially go for a bigger roulette your next time around!

Solid advice. I don’t do a lot in my days, and a lot of my current work revolves around driving, so I would actually have a lot of time to listen to new music. But you’re right, limiting my rounds, for a first time, is probably a good idea.

This helps a lot. My roulettes are among the most vast in terms of amount of music I receive (~6 hours of music per round in my last two roulettes) but I maintain a round per week by 1. having a lot of time to listen to music when working/commuting, and 2. prioritising roulette submissions over other listening for the duration of the roulette.

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.
