I think if I do another roulette, it's going to be strictly NON-ROCK/METAL/PROG. I've been toying with that idea for a long time but I don't know if anybody would be interested in that. I'd love to run a roulette where people submit literally anything but the three most typical genres here (coincidentally, also the three genres I'm most tired of listening to). Jazz, funk, r&b, rap, pop, country, western, classical, video game OSTs, film scores, anything.

Yeah um......I may have a couple of jazzy numbers but I doubt I'd have enough for a roulette lol.

Are you including Spinal Taps "Jazz Odyssey".  Because that's the only jazzy number I could provide.

Good, good. Weed out the weaklings early.  :)

I'm not ready to commit to another roulette quite yet. My last one wasn't very long ago. I don't know. We'll see, but that will very likely be the format. Tired of heavy, guitar driven music for the most part.

If I'm being honest it's to increase the odds of getting music that's actually interesting to me. I have enough of that rock, metal, and prog stuff to last me a lifetime. Let's shine the spotlight on other genres this time.

Yeah it's a great idea, and I've actually been thinking for a long time of doing a similar thing but only banning a few genres I don't like but people seem to insist on sending me anyways :P

Yo, ZZ Top.  Under this format, would non-rock/metal/prog songs from traditional rock/metal/prog bands be acceptable?  Like, if a song was more jazz, country or whatever, from a band within the "banned" genres, would that fly?

Asking for a friend.

Generally speaking... sure. But it would have to be a significant departure from their sound, something that sounds like a completely different band; I don't want a rock song with jazz elements, I would want a full-on jazz number. Not a rock song with like a jazz instrumental section but structured like a rock song. Like DT's Three Days... jazzy and weird near the end, but is more or less a prog rock song. Not really looking for that, I'm looking for something that is fully in the realm of another style, not a metal song with country elements like Sonata Arctica's Cinderblox, I want a straight-up country song, show me Toby Keith, show me George Strait. Something that would actually make the cut, in other words, would be Nightwish's Meadows of Heaven, or Toto's Spiritual Man, two highly gospel-influenced numbers that do not sound like metal or rock numbers. Check those out if you need an idea of what I'm getting at. Push come to shove, send several to me and I'll run with the one that is most out there.

I've also heard three ZZ Top records and don't like them that much (Degüello, Tres Hombres, La Futura) so I would strongly advise your friend against sending them regardless.
