Humidity is the worst. I can tolerate dry heat pretty well, but when it's humid, it's unbearable even if it's not as hot.

Currently talking to this girl, and we've been hanging out some. Last night we went and sat outside of Starbucks and just talked for about 2 hours. We both leave for fall semester in a few weeks, but it'll be different universities. We still plan to talk and hang out on weekends though. We'll see what happens.

I'm so lucky to have this work making icons right now. Every day it's nice to figure out how much money I've earned with each day's work (although I haven't gotten paid anything yet, as I haven't sorted out payment details yet or sent them anything yet, but that should start soon).

I hope you have some kind of written contract and they're not going to just do a runner when you hand over the work.

This almost happened to my brother recently with a record label and several videos he did.

He made them put a clause in the contract that stated he'd be paid the moment he handed over the videos.

When he did they were like " when the band pay US what they owe us then we'll pay you. "

Bro was like " No. You guaranteed in your own contract you'd pay up as soon as I delivered the videos. You're now in breach of your own contract ".

And they still weren't forthcoming. So then they went ahead and uploaded all the videos to YouTube.

So then my bro says : " You've not paid me for the videos - you've not bought the rights - therefore i still own all the rights and you're stealing my work and I can do whatever I want with these videos

and until you buy them off me - you can't legally use them."

They paid up pretty soon after

He says he has the same problem with every label he works with. Dad and I suggested he make his own contract which they have to agree to - which states that he is to be paid

immediately upon receipt of the video.

No wonder majors are so fucked.

It's like they see paying people as a luxury and something to be avoided.

The whole thing about " when the band pays back their advance and clear their debts "... Fuck off. There was absolutely nothing in the contract that mentioned this...

It's like if they paid my bro and he said "....yeah i'll do the work when my Auntie passes away and i get my inheritance and by a new computer to do the work on..."

The band's debt is not your problem, it's their problem from the contract between the band and the label. If you are hired to do work for them, you get paid. This is how the rest of the world works. A lot of bands never pay off their advance, which they know, so they're probably trying to minimize their losses in a seedy way.

Turned out the guy my bro was having problems with replaced the guy who made the original contract - so he had no idea that my bro already had a contract with the company.

This new guy assumed they were doing " avoid paying at all costs " and didn't know the company already had a contract before he joined so he paid straight away...

Still though - trying to avoid paying with some shitty excuse - as your GO TO when trying to do "business". Just appalling behaviour.

This is why I hate the business side of contract work (even though most of my experiences have been very good). I just want to agree to do something for a price, then get it done and and sorted, without the hassle of dealing with people chasing things up. Even when they're honest and fair, things can often get forgotten or overlooked or delayed. It's unnecessary stress on top of getting the work done on time.

I haven't done music videos, but I've worked for record labels for advertisements, and I haven't had any problems. They were generally slow with payment, but always reliable.

I'm sure some record labels will be worse than others, and it may also depend on which department you're dealing with. That label would be one to avoid.

I hate anything like that.

It's the same with Landlords. If something in your house breaks - they are extremely lax at getting it done but if your rent is even a day late - they're on the phone immediately.
