It's funny when you hear a term or slang from another country and you misunderstand it's meaning. Here's one for you.

I worked at a grocery store as a bagger. We would have to go out to get the empty carriages in the yard. The term here was called "shagging". Go shag some carts. this was waaaaay before Austin Powers came out. My friend who was the drummer in our band, just moved from England here. When I told him that he busted out laughing and told me the British meaning.

I told him, hey bub, we're in America now. My penis will never touch a cart.

Australia tends to defer to British terms, so that would have always been funny to me too.
Over here flip flops are called thongs, which is probably funny to an American.
And fanny over here means vagina (at least it always did when I was a kid), so hearing it in American shows was jarring to say the least.

We call it a bum bag. Bum as in butt, not as in hobo. At least I don't think so!

And a thong is what we call a g-string, I believe. Why do we call it that? No idea.

We call them Bum Bags too - at least we did because nobody in their right mind wears those anymore.

Yeah it's a bit odd the US calling your bum "fanny" when in the UK at least it means a lady's front bottom

I was coming home from the supermarket and every car coming towards me was flashing their lights so i slowed down incase there was flooding or a police car up

ahead and when I got to the bottom of the hill - there was a massive accident in the road.

THREE cars were in the ditch and a fourth car was in the middle of the road with it's front end completely smashed in and the wheels at a 45 degree angle.

It didn't look like anyone was badly hurt. Lots of people walking around and no ambulance. I hope it's in the paper next week so i can read about it.

I have some occasionally with toast - it's fine if scraped on with butter rather than caked on. Eating it out of a jar certainly ain't representative of how it tastes when used as is the norm. I was brought up on it like many Aussie kids.

Haha - you got me before I deleted it. I meant that I was given tastes of beer by an uncle as a youngster and encouraged to develop a taste as I got into my teens but I just cannot stand the stuff. Sweet tooth all the way. Ouzo............yum.
