Shadow Ninja's Music Discovery of the Day
« on: November 12, 2013, 07:00:33 PM »
Today it's a band called Rishloo. I'd never heard of them until I saw them in the "related videos" section. They're a bit hard to describe, kind of like prog mixed with alternative with some other stuff. Anyway, I bet a lot of people here would really dig them.

I suggest looking into:

Pendragon
Iluvatar
The Enid

Pendragon I've heard a bit of, and I really like them.

The others are new to me, I shall investigate and report back.

Unfortunately both bands are disbanded as far as I know, Iluvatar had like 2 or 3 albums, but in my opinion they are very strong. (Of course I'm a sucker for neo-prog) See "Late of Conscience" and "Your Darkest Hour"

The Enid is a bit harder to describe. Very artsy prog, generally very light. I think it's considered psychedelic too, which isn't surprising. See "Tripping the Light Fantastic"

That would be Tripping the Light Fantastic, in fact. I myself haven't dug deep into their discography, bu I do enjoy what I have heard. See "The Demon King" and "Witch Hunt"

Checked out Reverberations. Pretty good, though I think I'd have to be in a certain mood to really enjoy it.

Today it's a group called Coastal Cities. Sort of an atmospheric rock type sound. Here's their video:

Not in that one, but there were two orchestras playing that day. Here's something from another time that I was playing in.

Have you heard Leprous SN? They've released only three albums so far, of which Bilateral is probably the best.

Forgot about this. I have heard exactly one Leprous song that I got for some InsideOut promotional thing while ago. The track I got was called The Cloak. I really like it, actually, but I haven't gotten around to checking out the rest of their material. I guess I should.

Today, I've been listening to Lana Del Rey's Born To Die and Persefone's Spiritual Migration. Odd mix, but they're both really excellent.

The Cloak is a bit of an unusual Leprous song though, the rest of them tends to be more avant-garde and a bit louder. I'd recommend their album Bilateral as a starting point; their third album Coal is really good but it's a lot darker and more serious than the other two.

Bit late on my part, :lol but thanks for the recommendations, I'll check 'em out soon.

On a different note, tonight I discovered a band called Steam Powered Giraffe. I'm not sure if they're well known or not, but check out this song. It's fantastic.

Today it's a guy called Jon Gomm. He plays guitar like it's a whole band, it's incredible.

Got two today. First is an awesome avant-garde metal group called Vulture Industries.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acZ_pm7R22Q

Second is a band called Menace, featuring Derek Roddy on drums.

Both of these are on the Seasons Of Mist label. I think I'm going to keep checking out their stuff, most of it has been great thus far.

This guy, David Maxim Micic, does some of the most decent and creative djent. These songs are from his first EP, but his lastest album, Bilo 3.0 is my AOTY 2013.

I'm not Shadow Ninja, but my greatest current discovery is definitely Grave Digger. Love all the albums that I have - Heart of Darkness, The Grave Digger - and most of the other stuff that I have heard via YouTube.

My favourite track from them, for anyone interested: Grave Digger - The Grave Digger

I think I found this group a while ago, but I guess I got distracted by other things and never posted anything about them.. Anyway, to rectify that, I give you the band múm! They're a sort of low-key kinda post-rock largely instrumental group, and they make some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. If you're interested, check 'em out.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODWN-U4j92U

Landon Tewers. A fucking monster of a vocalist and a composer.

Here's a song from his band The Plot In You's latest record Happiness in Self Destruction (also my favorite record of 2015).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-WKU7nkP9M

Here's another that shows the range of the album:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPq3Y7fgFLY

And here's some of Landon's solo stuff:
1. a kind of spoken word type deal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M07JvSHlxkw
2. pretty heavy track, off a concept EP about a robot that tries to destroy the human race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HApPCshP9q4
3. A bit of humor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPikwQc5q28

Check this dude out. This is one of the best discoveries I've made in a long time. edit: unless I'm in your roulette. Don't check it out, I'm gonna send it to you. :P
