And as Rich said, awwwww at all the youngns. I'm kind of jealous of the fogeys getting to include such awesome years/albums in their lists.

I'm very fond of the two longer instrumentals - Cruise Control and South of the Boulevard.

And the three songs that became TOP classics are each awesome.
Winger would be better!

That tour was unreal and I was so mad wen Tom Bowes left the band.  Took my then 19 year old brother to see them and we were right in front of Carmen Grillo, the guitarist.  I took the taped set list after the show ended and gave it to my brother.

The idea gave a nice way to get the ball rolling, but it looks like the thread is winding down.  Have some fun and pick some pre-birth year best albums.  Maybe we could just say all pre-birth albums should be in a certain color text.  I did nearly a decade pre-birth years because they included some of my favorite albums.

1985 - surprisingly, I can't think of anything
1986 - Van Halen - 5150
1987 - GNR - Appetite For Destruction / Whitesnake's 1987
1988 - Survivor - Too Hot to Sleep (Metallica - AJFA would be a contender if the production wasn't total ass)
1989 - Skid Row - S/T
1990 - Nelson - After the Rain / Pantera - Cowboys From Hell
1991 - Such a damn good year for music, so I'll try to cut my choices to the best of the best-
         Metallica - The Black Album
Skid Row - Slave to the Grind
Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears
         Europe - Prisoners in Paradise
1992 - Dream Theater - Images and Words / Steelheart - Tangled in Reins (honorable mention to KISS - Revenge)
1993 - Shortino & Northrup - Back on Track (honorable mention to Coverdale / Page)
1994 - um I don't know. Megadeth Youthanasia maybe? Not a good year for music.
1995 - Ozzy Osbourne - Ozzmosis
1996 - Steelheart - Wait / Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill
1997 - Dream Theater - Falling Into Infinity / Whitesnake - Restless Heart
1998 - The Snakes - Once Bittin / David Lee Roth - DLR Band
1999 - Dream Theater - Scenes From a Memory
2000 - Pantera - Reinventing the Steel
2001 - Ozzy Osbourne - Down to Earth
2002 - Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
2003 - Arch Enemy - Anthems of Rebellion / Dream Theater - Train of Thought
2004 - can't think of any
2005 - James LaBrie - Elements of Persuasion / Dream Theater - Octavarium
2006 - none that stand out
2007 - Stan Bush - In This Life
2008 - Journey - Revelation / Whitesnake - Good to be Bad
2009 - Steel Panther  - Feel the Steel (honorable mention KISS - Sonic Boom)
2010 - Nelson - Lightning Strikes Twice / Crazy Lixx - New Religion
2011 - Rhapsody of Fire - From Chaos to Eternity / Whitesnake - Forevermore
2012 - Van Halen - A Different Kind of Truth
2013 - James LaBrie - Impermanent Resonance / Fergie Frederiksen - Any Given Moment
2014 - Crazy Lixx - S/T / Stan Bush - The Ultimate (I have a lot more music to explore from 2014)

Nice lists - from my point of view there's plenty I can agree with in the lists of Blob, wolfking and Calvin.   Nice to see Back on Track get a mention Blob..............all good actually up to about 1995 , after which our tastes diverge a bit  :D

Presumably you didn't like anything in my 1985 metal/hard rock list ,so how about some AOR?

JLT: Rescue You
MAgnum: OAST
Heart: Heart
Night Ranger : 7 Wishes
Honeymoon Suite: The Big Prize
Shooting Star: Silent Scream
Dire Straits: Brothers In Arms
Michael Bolton: Everybody's Crazy
Stage Dolls: Soldier's Gun......................plenty of decent AOR in there.

I think it's just a matter of a lot of the music for '85 falling through the cracks and not having listened to them. I'm not familiar with any of those (I'd have to recheck your metal/rock list). There's really no reason I shouldn't enjoy something from smack bang in the middle of my favourite decade! :lol

Shortino Northrup - Back on Track was a great album released far too late for that style of music. Which is exactly why it didn't have much competition for that year.

Holy cow.  This list is hard.  Most of the years before 2000 was really hard for me to think of an album that I had listened to in full.  Here's the list though.

1992 - DT's Images and Words
1993 - Rush - Counterparts
1994 - Soundgarden - Superunknown
1995 - Don't have one, but I'm sure I'm bound to like Slash's Snakepit - It's Five O'Clock Somewhere
1996 - Rush - Test For Echo
1997 - Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape
1998 - Don't have one yet, but I'm going to listen to Bruce Dickinson's The Chemical Wedding, eventually, and I will like it, because well, it's Bruce Dickinson.
1999 - Creed - Human Clay
2000 - Iron Maiden - Brave New World
2001 - Mayfield Four - Second Skin
2002 - Trust Company - The Lonely Position of Neutral
2003 - Shinedown - Leave A Whisper
2004 - Alter Bridge - One Day Remains
2005 - Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil
2006 - Skillet - Comatose
2007 - Alter Bridge - Blackbird
2008 - Black Stone Cherry - Folklore and Superstition
2009 - Daughtry - Leave This Town
2010 - Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier
2011 - Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
2012 - Mark Tremonti - All I Was
2013 - Alter Bridge - Fortress
2014 - Sevendust - Time Travelers' and Bonfires

1998 - Don't have one yet, but I'm going to listen to Bruce Dickinson's The Chemical Wedding, eventually, and I will like it, because well, it's Bruce Dickinson.

Dude.  Do it.  Its SO freaking good.

Oh lol missed that.  Can't say I ever gave EODM a fair go, always thought they were like a comedy band a'la Tenacious D.  Which is weird because I love The D.  :eyebrows:

They kind of are, but with more emphasis on the music than the comedy. The lyrics are pretty cheesy (to say the least), but the riffs are sick, and I love 'em.

It took me one hour, but finally I managed to write down something from every year!
2001, 2003, 2005, 2010, 2013 are really full of great albums that it's a shame many of them aren't included in my list, while strangely 2006, 2007, 2008, 2012, 2014 have only two or three good releases.

1993: -
1994: Soundgarden - Superunknown
1995: Faith No More - King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime
1996: Tool - Aenima (again only one album to choose from)
1997: Pain Of Salvation - Entropia
1998: Anathema - Alternative 4
1999: Mr. Bungle - California
2000: Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
2001: Tool - Lateralus
2002: Dream Theater - Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
2003: Oceansize - Effloresce
2004: Alter Bridge - One Day Remains
2005: Thrice - Vheissu (too many excellent albums this year..)
2006: (..and nothing to choose the next year) Unexpect - In A Flesh Aquarium
2007: Thumpermonkey - Bring Me Sun For Breakfast
2008: The Mars Volta - The Bedlam In Goliath
2009: Leprous - Tall Poppy Syndrome
2010: Haken - Aquarius
2011: Unexpect - Fables Of The Sleepless Empire
2012: The Tea Club - Quickly Quickly Quickly
2013: Haken - The Mountain
2014: Slipknot - 5:The Gray Chapter

I tried doing this once and gave up because it was taking me too long.  :lol

Suffice to say, I was born smack dab in between the releases of Black Sabbath (s/t) and Hey Jude, which ain't bad at all.  If I had to pick a favorite album from that year, it would probably be one of those or Paranoid.

Ha! Cheers Blob. Appreciate it. So far I think it's just Purple Rain, but even that was just an honorable mention as nothing could beat the greatness of VH that year.

Actually Bosk, for me part of the fun was how long it took. Great memories!

I very much like this idea but I just can't do it. I've tried hard, but I can't narrow it down to one (or maybe two) in most of the years.

The seventies would be easy, I would begin with Led Zeppelin III to give you my age, and follow it with some obvious classics like Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis. But come 1978 I just have to list the three debut albums of some of my favorite bands (Van Halen, Toto, Dire Straits) and from then on I could do a top ten for each year but not narrow it down to one or two.

Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D
