Always interesting to see these lists. I was pleasantly surprised to see "Misunderstood" as it's one of my favorites as well. "Lost Not Forgotten" was an obscure but cool call. Here is my top ten in chronological order:

- Take the Time
- Metropolis
- Learning to Live
- Voices
- Lines in the Sand
- Trial of Tears
- Blind Faith
- Misunderstood
- Disappear
- Octavarium

Trial of Tears and Misunderstood are excellent songs and would definitely be in my top 20. My list tends to focus on the instrumental aspects of the band, but there are so many awesome songs to choose from.

While it's not a representative list for hardcore fans, it's a pretty solid list for newcomers to check out. The only glaring entries there are Lie and LNF imo, although Lie was a metal single, so I get it.
That's not to say it's anywhere near my own top 10, as only Take the Time and maybe As I Am would make the cut.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Everybody on Dream Theater's Facebook post seems to be apoplectic about it. Dream Theater fans are not ones to shy aware from an opinion that's critical...

Pretty much... Although I don't really understand why there's an issue for some people. All of the choices kinda make sense to be 'popular' or generally pretty well received DT songs. It's pretty impossible to make an absolutely definitive list for DT though. But I don't understand why this list would anger anyone. It's mostly old classics with a new(ish) song in there. I would have thought BAI would be in before LNF though to be honest. And I guess it's missing Octavarium which seems like a no brainer for most people. But most of the choices are otherwise completely up in the air. Only with DT could something as simple as a top 10 list be so universally polarising.  :xbones

It's kind of like picking the best rock guitarist out there....Dream Theater have put out so many good tunes that any list would be incomplete at best.

Didn't Loudwire created a DT top 10 songs list a couple months back and, in light of the news that they are heading to the studio in February, just decided to make some slight changes to it now?

"Lost Not Forgotten" is my ninth favorite song on ADTOE, so it definitely wouldn't be anywhere near my top 10 all-time!  But everyone has their own tastes.

'Misunderstood' is probably the closest Dream Theater can get to a power ballad.

Clearly they've misunderstood Misunderstood. Maybe a twisted and distorted power ballad, but Another Day is closer to the power ballad style.

Solid list. The following from your list would make my top 20 list as well (it's always changing of course):

Breaking All Illusions (Top 5)
Home (Top 3)
Octavarium (Top 3)
A Change Of Seasons (Top 10)
SDOIT (Top 20)
Fatal Tragedy (Top 15)
Learning To Live (Top 20)
Metropolis (Top 20)

We must have pretty similar taste!

‘Lie’ off 1994’s ‘Awake’ is the shortest song on this list, clocking in at 4:40

I also feel like "Lost Not Forgotten" was added mostly because they felt like they had to include something more recent than ToT, but couldn't come up with anything worthwhile.
