Hey guys I apologize about the delay. I've just recently gotten a second job and have been busy nonstop. I will not be able to fully listen to all entries and score them until this Friday. I apologize for the inconvenience. The next round will last 2 weeks, ending on Monday, January 5th to make up for this time, to give a break for during the holidays, and for a third reason that I will divulge when the round theme is premiered.

Hey, everyone. I apologize about me taking so long to post the results but I will absolutely have them up tomorrow afternoon, if not tonight. In the meantime, I will give you all the next theme:

Round Seven: The Storm

Epic time! Self explanatory; send me your favorite epic. Now, an epic has a different meaning to everyone it seems, in terms of what songs classify as one. In this round, I'm classifying any song 18 minutes or above as an epic, with all of its musical passages fully realized and is a monumental piece of music. Songs like Illumination Theory, 8VM, Count of Tuscany, and Duel With the Devil by Transatlantic are great examples, and are also my favorites in this category.

Other 10-16 min songs like Outcry, The Glass Prison, Breaking All Illusions, etc are all epic sounding and are shining examples of musical achievement, but I wouldn't classify them as an epic.

One more after this folks. Make it count!

Really sorry about the delay but FINALLY:

Round Six Results:

#11: Pyramid Theorem-Another Day Slips By; Scorpion
I enjoyed the acoustic guitar at the beginning but overall this song was just average for me. It's not bad but it's just not something I'd listen to a lot.

#10: Oceansize- Servant; LordCost
Intro and outro in this song are awesome. Really beautiful. The rest is fairly adequate, however. Once again not a bad song, but nothing particularly special imo.

#9: Ben Folds Five- Brick; kingschmegland
Really depressing song topic that was turned into a beautiful but ominescent piece of music. They come across great live too. The piano playing is very nice.

#8: Anathema- Untouchable, Pt. 1; Sacul
Better than the other Anathema song sent my way in a different round. I watched a live clip of it and they are pretty awesome live. The guitar melody in the beginning of the song is amazing and I love their singer's voice. Really good song overall.

#7: Opeth- In My Time of Need; mikemanjioy
This is the second time I've heard a song from this band in this roulette and I'm really enjoying what I've heard so far. This one has a great melody and a great overall sound. The topic is something several of my closest friends have dealt with at one point so it's a impactful song for me. They convey the emotion of the song superbly with the lyrics and instruments. Great song.

#6: David Gray- Please Forgive Me; senecadawg2
This is a really great song. The drummer is amazing in this song. The piano and overall feel is very Coldplay like, except in a more musical and mature way. Very fun listen.

#5: Hardline- In the Hands of Time; jingle.joy, in place of DR. DTVT
Another song with a great melody. The guitar work is phenomenal. I had no idea Journey's guitarist was so good. Very 90s feeling, in vocal style and instrumental style. Great song.

#4: Porcupine Tree- In Formaldehyde; Tom Bimbaldi
Procupine Tree is awesome. End of story. Steven Wilson's a musical genius. The rest of the band is amazing as well. This was probably my least favorite out of the 3 I've been sent so far, but it's still #4 on this list so that should tell you it's still awesome.

#3: Shadow Gallery- Ghost of a Chance; Destiny of Chaos
Next 3 were all really close. The melody of this one reminds me of Good Will Hunting and that's not a bad thing. This song is gorgeous. The melody is rich in emotion. The arpeggios over the synth lead toward the end is amazing. A really great pick.

#2: Blind Melon- Change; lonestar
Wow. The melody of this song is..wow. Such a charming song with such optimism and emotion. I really love the lyrics and how they relate to how you have to change for you life to become great and not stay stagnant in whatever shitty place it's in. I love the positivity in the message. Wonderful song.

#1: Storm Corrosion- Storm Corrosion; Lucien
Once again: Steven Wilson is a fucking musical genius and Mikael Akerfeldt is right there with him. This is a perfect song. The melody the lyrics the EVERYTHING is just exactly what I was looking for. Nailed it. Great job.

I will post the standings once I get to a computer, but here is Round Seven just in case you missed it:

I do have to say I'm very pleased that the Blind Melon song got to you, it's always a special pleasure to see someone else take to a very personal song for me in such a way. The theme of the song is very ironic considering the lead singer and vocalist was in the throws of a brutal heroin addiction which he later succumbed to, a tragic loss for the music world.

 ::)
;)

Relistening to all of them to reaffirm my selections and will
Have my results on Wednesday, if not tomorrow. Only reason I'm behind on this one (and all of them, really) is due to my work and school schedule preventine me from being punctual, and also I want to make sure I've given every sog a fair chance so I don't make a hasty decision on them.

So I now ask everyone: how has this Roulette been for you guys? I'm a complete ameteur at this and know I haven't conducted this all too well, but I would love some constructive feedback should I decide to do this again. How can I improve? I know for starters more communication in between rounds, lengthier reviews, and following my deadlines would all help. What are your guys' opinions?

OK. FINALLY.

Round Seven Results
My favorite song of all time is Octavarium, an epic, so naturally I was excited for this round. Epics are usually my favorite because the length of the song allows for complete exploration of a theme, and there's usually several interesting ones per epic. That and because I usually just like them the best lol. This round was a great one with a lot of great tunes sent my way. I like every single one, whether you're #11 or #1.

DR. DTVT failed to send me a song, so instead of delaying this any further I shall disqualify him from this round. Sorry.
Also, 2 contestants happened to send the exact same song, so another spot will be removed. That makes this a top 9 list instead of a top 11. Instead of taking away the 10 or 11 point wins for 1st and 2nd place, I will take off the 1 and 2 point scores for 10th and 11th place, meaning the lowest you can get is 3 instead of 1!

So without further or do....

#9: The Tea Club- Firebars; LordCost
This one was very interesting. Much different than what I'm used to in the epic department. The piano break around the 11 min mark is wonderful, and from there through the ending of the song is definitely the highlight. Wonderful lead melody. I really enjoyed their singer's voice. It seriously reminds me of another vocalist but for the life of me i can't think of his name. His voice compliments this type of music really well. Solid pick.

#8: Stravinsky's - The Rite of Spring; Lucien
Seriously chaotic piece in the string department. like how do you? Why do you? WAHT EVEN??

Really cool symphony. I'm not a symphonic or orchestral instrument player, but i have to imagine something like this is REALLY hard to play for 33 min. So much air/endurance. Props to those musicians. I'll be honest, at first I saw the word "Spring" and immediately thought this was Vivaldi's "La Primavera" so I was like "well damn EVERYONE knows this song"  :lol Don't get me wrong on continually placing these types of pieces so low on the list. I do enjoy them and classical music. It's just that I like other genres more :P

#7: Genesis- Supper's Ready; Tom Bombadil
One of very few Genesis songs I've heard. Love Cuckoo Cocoon off Lamb Lies Down.... and enjoyed Riding the Scree off the same album you sent me for the drumming round. This one is probably better than Scree, but I prefer Cuckoo over it just for it's simplistically wonderful melody and atmosphere. This one is an enjoyable listen still. The whole beginning before the full band kicks in is in that same wonderful style as Cuckoo, as in calm, mellow with just atmospheric instrumentation and vocals. Very clean feeling. Overall I don't think Genesis is too much my style, but I still enjoy some of their music, including this song.

#6: Karmakanic- A Message From the Heart; kingschmegland
DAT BASS THO. You're right, the bass patterns in this song are something else. i also really enjoy the soloing the guitarist does throughout. This is a talented group of folks right here.
Anyways, this song also has a great melody. Great lyrics, instrumentation, vocals, everything. Very interesting and engaging song.

#5: Obsidian Kingdom - Mantiis: An Agony in Fourteen Bites; Sacul
I very nearly made a 5 way tie at this point. This was VERY difficult to decide from here on out. At 46 minutes, this was the longest epic sent my way. And it was REALLY interesting. This made for a great listen. Lots of interesting themes and rites of music in this 14 part epic. I think I'd say Not Yet Five is my favorite section. It opens the epic perfectly and is gorgeously serene. Wonderful music.

#4: Seventh Wonder- The Great Escape; Senecadawg2/Scorpion
This guy's voice is amazing. The acoustic opening and closing of this song is to die for. Dripping with emotion. It's truly wonderful. When the orchestral instruments kick in at 1:40 it gives the song a truly "epic" feel to it. Like it's the score to an adventure movie. Wonderfully orchestrated. The instrumental sections scattered through the song is where this band truly shines. Some real interesting stuff going on here. The solo at 18 min is  :hefdaddy Amazing song.

#4: Symphony X- The Odyssey; Destiny of Chaos
This actually was my first #1 for the round, as it was the first song I heard and had a hard time believing anything would beat it, cu this one is AWESOME.
Round Seven: The Storm

What can be more epic than a song based on a famous epic poem???!?!?!?

Enjoy!   :metal

Symphony X - The Odyssey
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxCGgcX3wfA
It is epic in every sense of the word. Powerful symphony and melodies VERY reminiscent of SDOIT Overture to open the song. It takes you through the story of the famous epic very well and the instrumentation throughout is top notch. The only album I own from SX is Iconoclast (which is awesome btw), but I will definitely be ordering this album as well. Sick song.

#2: Silent Memorial- Retrospective; lonestar
AHA YOU DIDNT WIN THIS TIME
You came close though, cuz this song is AWESOME. It's very DT like imo and the instrumentation is fucking great. Mediterranean acoustic at 1:40, epicness of a long but interesting instrumental section for the middle section of the song, sick opening and outro. Seriously. The main instrumental is over 8 minutes long and none of it is boring. That's the sign of an awesome song.

#1: Porcupine Tree- Anesthetize; mikemanjioy
Wait. What's this? ANOTHER Porcupine Tree that's beyond amazing? How shocking!
:lol This band is wonderful and this is the best song I've heard yet. EXCELLENT. Very Pink Floyd reminiscent mixed with some pretty heavy riffing. Some of the lyrics are...weird... but overall it's an outstanding song. Perfect pick dude.

Roulette Standings After Round Seven:

#1: lonestar- 68
#2: Destiny of Chaos- 59
#3: Senecadawg2- 56
#4: Tom Bombadil- 51
#5: mikemanjioy- 49
#6: Sacul- 41
#7: kingschmegland- 36
#8: Scorpion- 34
#9: LordCost- 30
#10: DR. DTVT- 28
#11: Lucien- 27

Unless lonestar gets dead last and Destiny gets 1st place, we have a winner  It's a possibility, but if the past 7 rounds are an indicator, I don't see it happening.

And now, the final round...

Round Eight: Encore
Let's close this out with everyone's favorite song. Send me whatever song you want. Your favorite song, a song you think I'll love, a song to boost your points etc. It's all up to you. This round (and roulette) will end Monday, January 12th, and I will do everything in my power to make sure everything is posted that day. Good luck!
