I'm always in favour of playing things a little different in live settings. Completely reproducing the studio record with all its parts and sounds can be nice, but is not what I want to hear in a live setting, especially if the parts are taped backing tracks and not actually played live.
For example Queen sounded a lot more rough in a live setting, because they couldn't reproduce what they did in the studio and they rarely used backing tracks (with the exception of Bohemian Rhapsody). And they were killer live.
There was a bonus DVD with Synchestra I believe, basically Devin and his band playing live in a rehearsal room. The setting was very intimate and lacked the live crowd, but I believe it was just the band with no backing tracks, and the versions of the songs they played were good.
