*Thinks "oh cool, an update. Probably just a rough little clip to show us that things are progressing."*

*HOLY CRAP, 12 MIN HD VIDEO*

Really cool beats there from Ryan. Seems more high energy than usual compared to something like Epicloud or Sky Blue.

Also found this old video of Devin from 2010 prior to recording Ghost and Deconstruction.
It's just him noodling around playing some acoustic stuff and rambling but theres some cool stuff in there.
Apparently the story told in Casualties of Cool was originally meant for Ghost. Interesting

I was really hoping he would play Seams. I really want to learn how to play that song.

A bit depressing to hear some cool cymbal work, knowing it'll be super buried in the final mix :(

Bassist/Occasional guitarist/Occasional producer of the band Periphery. Also a freelance badass.

Hey guys,

As always I like to create drum cams with my awesome Zoom Q8 recorder, for the people who follow me. Creating a drum cam for an album is a little more special... It gives people an insight to what kind of drumming i'm doing on the new album, as well as a sneak peek to the vibe of the album about to be released. This video gives you a sneak peak into almost every song the new DTP album 'Transcendence'. The drums were recorded at the amazing Armoury Studios in beautiful Vancouver, BC, Canada from March 25th -27th, 2016. Adam Nolly Getgood, bassist from the band Periphery engineered this album and the drum sound. I'm stoked on the sounds we got from my Pearl Drums and Sabian Cymbals. I used a combo Pearl SSC Birch drums and Pearl Reference Series Drums. They sound absolutely amazing!! I did on average 3 to 4 takes per song, a few songs were only one or two takes. I didn't have time to video of every take i did but I did manage to get a bit of almost every song. So the drumming you'll hear and see in this drum cam will be close to what the album will sound like for drums. Some of the playing in this video will be actual drumming that you will hear on the actual album release:) Things change in the studio, sometimes you get inspired and improvise or write a new part on the spot. Some of those things were caught in this drum cam. I really hope you enjoy it and that you get a good vibe, through my drumming, for the vibe this album has. I'm VERY proud of this particular record and think you guys are in for a treat musically!!

Lastly, I get asked a lot about my cymbal playing. I have so many cymbals to compliment all the different styles of music we have to play for Dev. I use cymbals to colour and match riffs and vocal melodies. I don't have them for show and you will really hear the cool cymbal matchings with vocals and riffs on this album in particular. My cymbals are like a Symphony to me, different tones and sounds to compliment the progressive music we play :))

This is my 8th studio album for the mighty Devin Townsend. The new album is coming out in Fall 2016. It is called 'Transcendence'. I feel it's the most diverse album that the DTP has recorded, there is a little bit of everything on this album. It can go from very heavy to rock to light and almost jazzy at one point. Stoked for you guys to hear it..... for now, here's a little sneak peak of the energy this album has via my drum tracks ;) Enjoy!

Best,

RVP

The book is already available for pre-order...

35 pounds for a book? As much as I love Devin, I can't afford it. 50€ with shipping... seriously? I was waiting for the book and wanted to buy it, but this is a rip-off.

It also comes with a CD of new music called Iceland, no idea what sort of sound this album will have or how much music we will get but it totally sold it for me, just preordered  :hat

I think a book written by any other artist would probably get a 'meh' from me, but you just know Devin's book will be funny, honest, insightful and weird/crazy/f**ked up!!

Can't wait, just hope it's a big chunky book that will keep me going a while.

I preordered immediately because I want that damn special edition.

There's also a sample of songs from the Acoustic EP(Iceland) on the page, which includes:
Let it Roll
Solar Winds
Ih-Ah
Funeral

2 Repeats from the original Acoustic EP. I hope we get a bit more variety.

Yes, I know, but I couldn't care less for the CD. Acoustic songs that he played thousands and thousands of times. For most of the songs on the sample you can find Youtube videos of him playing live. And I don't mean bootlegs, I mean official videos. You can also find the same songs played also acoustically on the official CD "Unplugged". Maybe there are a couple of songs that are new, but meh... not worth it in my opinion.

I agree with you that the book will probably be funny, intelligent, etc, but still.. it is too much for me. If there was a "Book edition" only including the book itself for like 20€, then maybe I would buy it. I guess I will have to wait for a reprint (if they do a reprint), like they did with Lifting Shadows or I will borrow from a friend. I paid around 10€ for the DT reprint and was happy with it. No extras, no toys, no fancy things, just the book.

I'm far more interested in the Ancient demo and the book itself than the Iceland CD. Not sure if I'm willing to blow $200 CAD on it, though.

If you just want the book, the publishing date is August, so you can get it from Amazon then.

Was watching some clips on youtube from the newest DVD at Albert Hall... did DT steal this idea of the split large screens in the background?  Looks very similar

<.<

That's kind of like saying "Did *so-and-so* steal the idea of standing in 'that' formation on stage?"...it's kinda...nuts. Course it looks similar. I'm sure plenty of peeps have done it before and I'm sure the first peeps to do it didn't copyright it. What?  :lol Cram? Hello? Buddy? *poke* *poke*

Yeah, synced split screens have been around a long while, certainly since 2000-2001 when Nine Inch Nails was using them. (They were cooler, though, since they were rigged to motors that changed their angles throughout the show, and they had light arrays all around the edges to use when there were no videos!)

I mean, it looks almost exactly like the same set up though, small screens on the botton, the five big parallel ones on top.  DT's marketing made it seem like it was going to be something special, yet DT on probably a smaller budget did the same thing for a one off show.

We're pleased to present to you the front cover of the upcoming 'Transcendence' record by the DTP! The last few months the band have been hard at work recording and the tracks are now sent off to be mastered. The worldwide release date is set for September 2nd in various formats on which we'll soon post more news. Another big announcement will be made here in just a few hours... Hope you dig!

Devin Townsend ft. Meshuggah? :lol I like the cover but I can't help thinking of the Obzen dude.

According to some people, the announcement will be regarding the upcoming tour, Devin Townsend + BTBAM and Fallujah :metal

I would hate the shit out of that tour by virtue of there being no chance that they would come to this side of the pond. :(

Urgh that cover is almost Dance of Death levels of internship photoshop work. I sat out the last two albums because I didn't like Epicloud and wasn't excited about the idea of Z2 (or the other album) so I'll be awaiting the first reviews to see if this new one is for me.

Friday night in NYC! I'll be there, also the Playstation theater is an awesome venue.  Just recently saw Avantasia there.
