Anyone got their bluray yet?

I thought it comes out next week?

If someone knows where this is priced normally in the US, please direct me

I got mine here: https://www.cmdistro.com/item/37376

Thanks and thats a fine price, but thats for the DVD.  I am looking for the blu ray, I see no point in buying a dvd if a blu ray exists.

All the BRs are currently European pressings. I heard somewhere that the US pressing will be in Dec. Best to follow Dev on twitter, as you'd hear it there first.

Watched the DVD today. What a performance, stunning. The mix is very good as well. I still can't believe he played Funeral, Bastard and The Death of Music live. That's my favourite three-song-run in Devin's discography by far.

One thing I have to mention: I deliberately hadn't listened to Dark Matters since... February? March? until I watched the DVD. And although the album has a few songs I find really cool, overall it's probably my least favourite Devin album apart from Punky Brüster, Devlab and The Hummer. In my opinion the album is just so much more superficial than his other albums. Contrary to ZTO for example, there isn't a 'serious' emotional meaning behind it and for some reason that's what it lacks for me.

Understood, it has a pretty limited appeal. Still, Dev is active enough that it's at least worth checking his feed once or twice a week; obviously the big news trickles down to other places fast, but some informative stuff gets left unrepeated.

You could also make a fake account to follow him, just so you get updates through app popups (on mobile/whatever) or through email.

Dev is doing a live stream on the 19th where he'll write and record a song from a scratch live.
Should be interesting
I'm going to watch the living shit out of this
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

Id like to catch that because thats a really cool idea, I however am not a musician so I do wonder if some of this will be over my head.  Also I just need to remember to watch.  It would be awesome if it was recorded so I can catch if I miss.

This is awesome. Really cool thing they're doing here and it's awesome for Dev to do this. Pretty fucking stressful, I imagine; despite loving what he does and being motivated/inspired...two hours? Yeesh! Awesome stuff though. Nice way to spend the night.  :metal :millahhhh

So great to watch.  Devin's personality just oozes through the entire process, especially when he has to restart a vocal recording because he had to belch a few times.

Loved it, and an excellent track to boot!

Totally forgot when I got home, sort of expected that though.  So did he make this song completely from scratch last night or was it sort of laid out already?  Song is pretty good after one listen.

It was literally from scratch. I'm in awe of the man, despite knowing that he's a brilliant man already, that shit is just crazy. He said he had a few lyrics thought out and a couple standalone riffs that he had brainstormed but obviously that's always there when actually creating something...otherwise he'd just be sitting there in the video for two hours just thinking of shit. Otherwise, nothing else was done, he made the song itself from scratch laying down every instrument, vocals, modifying it, switching stuff out in program, editing things, etc.

I really like the song a lot, even when forgetting it was done in front of our eyes in less than two hours. That is just mind boggling to me. I mean I can play fucking Smoke On The Water and the beginning to White Zombie's I Am Legend. That's it. So it's natural that I don't even get how he can do this, but the fact that it wasn't just...playing the shit and then he's done. He had the program up and was tinkering with it all the while and getting irked at the keyboard constantly disconnecting and the bass was apparently a relative POS and he had to hold back on laying down certain vocals and changing certain lyrics he didn't love due to time constraints, etc. It was a real eye opener for someone like me who knows jack shit about music in general, let alone making a song.

Thats exactly why I wanted to see this, because I have no idea what goes into making a song besides creativeness and musical abilities.  That's amazing that it only took 2 hours to make a song, and a good song too!

Really not into the song. Does not bode well for my reaction to the new DTP album. It's all good, though – he'll do something entirely different that I'll be into instead, I'm sure!

And RAH bluray is amazing. Did surprising justice to the OM trinity at the end... Wasn't sure if he'd go completely serious, but he did, and it's beyond words.

okay, so, no, it wasn't 100% from scratch actually
he had a few of the tracks pre-done, i think (keys mainly), and he'd worked out a few of the riffs in advance, but it was like, 90% from scratch still  :lol

It proves that amazing music can be made quickly. Time spent =/= quality. Good ideas matter, not time. If your ideas are meh, the music will be meh.

nah i've been ready for The Astonishing to be awful ever since it was officially revealed
but it's following up an also pretty terrible album so that's probably part of my expectations

when devin lets us down it's not as big of a letdown, either, z2 wasn't awful or anything, just kinda meh

Just got, and seen Ziltoid At Royal Albert, and it's fucking nice. I was expecting a fully-blown rock opera and costumes from what Dev said in interviews about it earlier but it was still very satisfying.

Judging by this snippet, this may Dev's best album yet.
