I can't say I'm nearly as disappointed by this as I thought I'd be upon initially starting to read the announcement. I think he's wrung out every ounce of individuality from the band as he could. I liked Transcendence a good bit, and some tracks I really loved, but it's clearly getting to a point where he's got a kind of waxing and waning repetitious sound. I personally don't think it's gotten boring yet, but I think it would have after the next album or two. There's only so much you can do with a certain sound unless you're willing to make a hard left turn at the genre intersection.
A great thing about Devy is that he's already done so many genre twists that him having different projects and avenues for his creative side is that no one is going to do a double-take if he does a project under yet another different band name that is completely different than what he's done before (I mean, I don't think I can be as surprised as when I heard he'd be making a country-esque album, a genre I abhor, and then being blown away again when I loved the shit out of it). If he did that with DTP, it'd be a little different.
So in reality, I don't think this is going to change things all that much aside from the touring side (which actually is kind of disappointing). I'm still really excited to hear what he comes up with next.
