Cheese in metal
« on: March 02, 2015, 09:55:06 PM »
No, I don't intend to create a debate on what cheesy means nor whether it's great or awful. I just saw a RYM list named like that, and for petrucci's sake, what the hell is this.

At first I thought he was just mocking on some power metal bands, and being a bit edgy - just for the sake of pissing off some dudes on the site. But looking closer, it not only looks the guy has spent lots of time on the list (around 590+ bands, each one with at least a small writeup) - he seems to be deadly serious about it. Although I agree with part of his arguments, I find this to be the most extreme act of elitism and snobbery I've ever seen.

What do you think guys (and gales), has the internet gone too far?

An idiot with way too much time (and other stuff) on his hands.

Yeah, it's obviously him trying to be funny, but it comes across just plain stupid.

If he did like a top 50 or something, that might be a laugh but trying to find something cheesy about every single band in existence that he knows of, it just as the others said, an unfunny douche with nothing better to do.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

I appreciate you posting this.  It's like a pocket guide to bands I probably want to steer clear of.  This will come in incredibly handy for me.

I want to believe it's a joke, but with more than 580+ bands in it, and with such an extensive introduction text, this seems more serious than it should. Maybe it all started like a funny list, but this is completely insane - who would spend so much time just to write shit about a huge amount of metal bands?

:notsureifserious:
They included DT and Ayreon there, so...

I'm 100% serious.  There are less than 10 bands on that list that I've either listened to regularly or heard at least a song from.  Judas Priest, DT, Iron Maiden, Queensryche.  It mostly stops there.

Also, I wonder if these guys have been sued for ripping of Kiss' Destroyer album cover:  https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/moottorin_jyrina/lapsimetallin_kuninkaat/
