Just curious.  Was I the only guy growing up in the 80s who saw the Faces of Death films?

I've always heard about them but could never muster up the courage. One that always stuck in my mind was apparently a bear ripped a guys head off. These were real home videos of people dying right?

Of course, I have stumbled across a certain website 10+ years ago that scarred me for life. Very popular back in the day. And then there's the time I thought I was downloading porn and it turned out to be a snuff video. Real or fake, that shit was horrifying.

I don't understand people wanting to see that. Like the ISIS videos. :( Why would you do that to yourself ?

Some was real, but a good bit was staged, if memory serves.

Am I the only one who thinks "Alien" is way overrated?
I've never seen it, and really never had the desire to.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D

I'm a Romero nut as well; so I have all of his films (and the remakes).  And I'll say that the 2004 remake of Day is better than the original in my opinion (runs hard for the door).
The 2004 remake is basically a completely different movie. I'm not even sure if remake is the right word, but I enjoy them both for different reasons. The 2004 version is a great horror film though, probably Zack Snyder's best film IMO.

Has anybody mentioned The Others?  I love that movie.

Also Let Me In.

I know it's already been mentioned, but Sinister gets props for legitimately frightening me.  Very few movies are able to do that anymore.

Possibly. I've seen it referred to as one of the few perfect films ever made.

It's pretty close to perfect, if by "perfect" you mean "completely achieving what it set out to achieve."  I can see that.

Exactly. It's not very thought-provoking, unlike Aliens, but it is most certainly one of the most perfectly constructed horror films ever. I'm generally not scared by horror films, but Alien (along The Shining and The Thing) is one of the few exceptions for me.

Agreed; it may be Snyder's best film.  I was pumped for it when it came out; and I was not disappointed that it turned from the original.

And I meant to say the Dawn of the Dead remake was better than the original; in my original post I said "Day".  While the Day of the Dead remake was ok, it doesn't come close to the (underrated) original Day of the Dead.  Ah... the 80's!

As far as Faces of Death is concerned, I thought that all of the scenes were set-ups being portrayed as actual events; if Hef is right and some of those scenes were real, I'm not sure they should have been on film.  I only really remember two scenes from any of those films; the curly fry girl in the water skiing accident and the man shot with a shotgun during some kind of protest.  Obviously, the protest scene is more likely to be real...

Now with Twitler taking a high end steak of this caliber and insulting the cow that died for it by having it well done just shows zero respect for the product, which falls right in line with the amount of respect he shows for pretty much everything else.- Lonestar

You should see the original version of Let Me In; Let the Right One In. It's tied with Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht as my all-time favorite vampire film. Very creepy film.

Triangle spoiler
has anyone here seen the 2009 British horror film Triangle?
I recently watched it and I was left thinking... what was the  point...
I understand it's a timeloop/deja vu movie, but still I guess I was left wanting more and was a little let down

I adore that movie.  Not so much for the scare factor, but... damn, does it sucker punch you.

The Conjuring is fantastic, and, to hit on what was said earlier, WATCH THE CABIN IN THE WOODS.  One of my top 10 movies.  No time to explain. See.

Did anyone see Oculus? Just wondering whether it has any scares at all?

It's alright. But right around the point when there was thirty-to-forty-five minutes left in the film, I got up to go to the bathroom and randomly decided to not go back into the theater to finish watching the film. When it was over, my friends walked out and I immediately listed my guesses of what all happened and how it happened.

I got it all right, aside from one detail.

The ending, for me at least, was that damn predictable. :yeahright

It does get into a familiar late 80´s/early 90´s horror movie vibe in its second half, but I think it´s an original ida, unlike the majority of Hollywood´s output of late.

I thought Oculus was pretty good.  Nothing to write home about, but pretty good.  With a couple great scenes.
