Write (now there's an E) your lyrics to instrumentals
« on: October 31, 2014, 02:26:08 PM »
The search feature just gets stuck for 5 minutes (at which point I give up), so, if this has been done before, forgive me.
My task to you is, write some lyrics to instrumental songs! (i.e. Ytse Jam/Enigma Machine)
Feel free to make them comedy or serious, I think this may be quite fun!

If I had the scores... Hmm... I actually sort of want to try this, though there's no guarantee any lyrics I come up with won't be pretentious as hell  :lol

I'm not sure how this could work in practice.  Their instrumentals are designed NOT to have words.  Not sure where you would put them without just covering up some of the instrumental goodness.

The songs already have lyrics, but it's John Myung on vocals.

There is no need for this thread to carry on... It's pointless now.

We can understand JMX's lyrics he writes for JLB, but the lyrics he writes for himself are as ensconced in mystery as the man himself is. For our own safety, the band decide to omit these lyrics from the booklets.

Technically speaking if you wanted to put lyrics in one of DT's instrumentals, the song with a more "posible lyric friendly estructure" would be SOC. It has a long almost-downbeat part where you could easily put some phrases and calling it a verse. When you get more into the song it becomes a little bit harder i guess but at least you have a verse or 2.
In fact you also could get a ending verse at the last part of the song. Then if you connect the words from the beggining with the ones at the end of the song, maybe it could come up something decent

Am I the only one who's really bothered by the fact that the topic title still doesn't have the "e" at the end of "Writ"?

Puppies on Acid; Isn't it a lovely sight?
Puppies on Acid; I would eat them if I might.

Totally original idea of mine.

Went down Broadway, me and a bunch,
saw the stand, got the munch
I gave him my money, and I did receive,
I looked down at what he gave me, what do I perceive

I wrote some lyrics for a first verse of SoC, 0:58 - 1:17, though this works for any of the multiple sections that sound like that.

I've fallen off the lights
I'm sinking into the night

Familiar faces lost
Descent into the frost

Save me, guide me
Help me rise free

And because I have infinite time on my hands (not really) I spent the multiple hours (like 10 minutes) transcribing what I hear onto sheet music.

SOC would be the easiest. As has been said, it has a lyric friendly structure. Also, with its attachment to Vacant and song name being similar to the lyrical contact of Vacant, you could use those lyrics as a foundation for the new lyrics. I won't be attempting it since I'm a bad lyricist, but I can see it other people making lyrics work for this song.
People figured out that the white thing that comes out of cows' titties could be drunk, and the relation between sweet desires and women's bellies growing up for 9 months. It can't be THAT hard to figure out how a trumpet works.”
