Christopher Nolan Fans
« on: September 29, 2014, 09:59:54 AM »
Long time no post. I used to pretty much live on this forum during the early years. I would have signed in with my original account, but I wasn't able to figure out what my username was (it's been a long time.)

Anyway, I'm a regular poster on NolanFans.com and just last week I was posting in one of the Interstellar threads, and one of the members there commented asking if I was a DT fan based on my username. One thing lead to another, and DTF members kept poppin' out of the woodwork over there. There's probably a good five or so DTF members on the NF forums. I just thought that was very interesting. I always considered Nolan's films to be the film equivalent of the Progressive Rock/Metal genre, so I guess it was only natural that his movies drew in a lot of DT fans.

Anyway, it's great to be back on the forums! And for those who aren't aware of Nolan's latest film, check it out here!

EDIT: For those unaware who Christopher Nolan is, he's the director/writer of such films as...
-Memento
-The Prestige
-Batman Begins - The Dark Knight - The Dark Knight Rises
-Inception

Welcome. I can't wait to see that movie. It's got a cool vibe similar to Contact. My only concern is that the movie's running time won't be long enough to tell the story appropriately.

Well, over at NF we're pretty much studying and analyzing every single piece of data about this film, lol. Right now it's pretty much confirmed to be around 160-170 minutes long. (2 hours and 40/50 minutes)

So yeah, fear not, this film will be long enough to get the job done.

I'm doing my best to avoid anything for that movie. I'm actually slightly disappointed that, because of your post, I now know what the ship looks like  :lol I saw the initial trailer one time and I was sold.

Since I read the basic synopsis way back in 2013 before Into Darkness even came out I was sold. It sounded like something I would definitely be interested in.

I want a Star Trek movie that's dark and scary and bleak.

Well it's going to be 'very' different from a Star Trek movie, I can assure you of that. But in a very good way. The film is more about finding the meaning of love within one's self through exploring outwards. Nolan and many of the cast has said that at it's core, this is really a film about what it means to be human, rather than exploration of the universe. It's as much of a drama as it is a scifi film.

Which is exactly what I want from a Nolan film in the first place.  :tup

Just curious as to why The Dark Knight is your least favorite. Usually that's people's top favorite.

The Dark Knight is the only Batman movie I've seen, and I thought it was good up until that two face character came in. That destroyed the whole flow/feel of the movie. It knocked it back a point or two in my book.

Unlike the other two , I thought it had too many acts and characters. Too many plot threads.

I just thought "...rises" was more fun and builds really nicely.

Yep, I change it from time to time but it is usually still a variant of that one.  I have versions for Christmas, Halloween, and Ghostbusters lol

Memento is one of my favourite movies, but I find the Dark Knight trilogy and Inception to be overrated tbh. Still decent, just not deserving of the legend status they get.

Memento is truly something else. One of my top favorites as well. I'm currently reading a book regarding the philosophies of the film.

That is a total girl thing.

Girl: “Which dress do you like better, the black one or the white one?"
Guy: “Um, the black one.”
<Months later>
Guy:” Why don’t you wear that white dress any longer?”
Girl: “You said you hated it.”

Back on topic:

I am so out of touch with current events I don’t recall ever hearing about this movie. Looking forward to it. I don’t like ranking things, but Memento is amazing. The only movie I ever watched twice within a 24 hour rental period.

I saw the preview earlier this week, it looks pretty good. I watched The Prestige a couple of weeks ago for the first time in years, I forgot how good it was.......compared to a lot of the crap out lately.
