In the spirit of taking one for the team.........the new Tad Morose is bloody awful.  I can't believe they have stuck with the current singer for 3 albums.   :-\

Wish I'd seen this 10 minutes ago.  I literally just clicked play on it (I'm 4 mins into track 1), and am definitely underwhelmed.  The chances of me getting through too many more songs are slim

I’ve just heard Ralph Santolla has passed away. Always enjoyed his Eyewitness album.

Edit. Might have been given fake news though he has had a heart attack and is in a coma. Doesn’t look good

Meant to post this - with you in mind - the other day and forgot.  Good news (relatively speaking) if he is still in fact in the coma .

We're probably 2 of the few with an original Now & Then copy of that Eyewitness album  :lol

EDIT:  Sadly it seems your original version is correct.   R.I.P.  Ralph :(

He's not dead yet....but will be taken off of life support today.

If you want a quality Tad Morose album check out Modus Vivendi, Undead etc.......the ones from the early 2000's with Urban Breed on vox.   The production is a bit muddy but songs like Take On The World kick some power metal ass.  Even Sender of Thoughts from the mid 90's ...........one of my earlier power prog metal purchases so I have a soft spot for it.

The recent stuff is pretty rubbish.

Hmm....Undead is the one I have.  I only listened through it once so might have to give it another chance.

I would give Modus Vivendi a go - probably their best by a fair margin.

New one on Frontiers with Craig Goldy, singer from Helker,  Simon Wright, Rudy Sarzo.
It might just be the pain pulls talki g but I enjoyed that. Worried about the mix but I'm listening on shitty headphones  so can't judge from this video.

Just enough RJD in the vocals without going into impersonating mode. Wayne Finlayson from MSG on it too.

Good to hear.   I thought that might've been Stone In Love with some nurses  ;D

The Dream Child does sound a bit raw in the production department but not in a really bad way and the song , while not very original , has more effort/thought behind it than I expected..  I get what you say about the mix - the drums seem to come over the top of everything.

I've always thought of Diego Valdez (ex Helker singer) as the Chilean Ronnie James Dio.... though it turns out he's Argentinian.   :lol

That song wasn't terrible.   ;D

I gotta hand it to Geoff Tate - he has really worked hard to get his voice back up to scratch.

So I didn't want to post this in the Tremonti thread, but I just gave this album a spin on Spotify. Well, half a spin anyway.

I have a few Alterbridge albums and they're OK. They seem solid enough, but for the most part, they are on the edge of what I like, and Myles Kennedy, while he seems to be real good, is also on my margins.

After reading through some posts in the Tremonti thread, and having never heard any of his solo band's work before, I decided to check it out.

There are a few good passages, but over all, I find it a total generic yawn fest. I was really hoping to be pleasently surprised but unfortunately, I could only make it halfway though.

I haven't checked the Tremonti yet and in no rush.   I really liked his first solo album but the next couple just tended to keep rehashing the same formula at a lower quality. What I have heard from this new one seems much of the same so not expecting much and what you say Tim sounds pretty spot on what I would think.

A quick belated review for the Mr Big/Extreme gig from last week.    It was held in an old 1920's theatre in Melbourne called The Forum and you can see the sort of ambience it has from my crappy photos

Mr Big opened up and were in good form start to finish.  Paul Gilbert was his usual quirky self on stage and the crowd responded well.  The highlights for me were the more rocking tunes like Addicted To That Rush.    Gilbert's guitar solo was just okay and , to me at least , he seems to have lost a touch in terms of his playing.   The lowlight was Billy Sheehan's bass solo.   Great player but he has no clue on how to create a melodic/rhythmic/fun bass solo.   It sounded like 5-10 minutes of thunder in the distance.

Extreme were up next and it was immediately apparent that the crowd was mostly there to see them.  The atmosphere went through the roof when they came on and their performance was also up a notch on Mr Big in all departments.  Both bands are similar in that they're fun to watch and have some groove in their songs but Extreme rocked harder , played better and had the crowd in the palm of their hand.  Nuno is also a pretty funny dude and had the crowd in stitches on more than one occasion.

I was impressed with both bands but there was a clear winner.    Setlists and some brief video snippets below.   Given that it was a 3 hr + gig I chose to stand at the back and lean on a rail that doubled as a little bar rather than try and survive on the floor................yes I am well and truly a fogey.   So the vids ain't great - not helped by having some 7ft giant in front of me on the level below.

Cool to hear that you had fun.  :metal

Billy's bass solos were shit from the beginning, just a bass-shred-fest that sounds like shit. I don't know why he is still playing a solo.

Mr. Big's set seems to be mostly songs from the first records, which is a good thing because the later ones are clearly not as good.

I'm pretty sure my back wouldn't let me stand for three hours or more, even if I could lean on a rail. One of the reasons I rarely go to concerts these days.

Nice read there Brent.  I'd be standing at the back leaning on a pole too. I actually really like enjoying my concerts like that, get a good view of the whole band with hopefully an even spread of sound, and hopefully normally a bit of room to breathe at times.

And for the heavier bands, far away from the mosh pit.  It was so fucking annoying seeing S-X and Evergrey, and having to defend myself from getting bashed by about 6-8 drunk asshats moshing around.

Dynazty ain't exactly classic Hard Rock/Classic Metal, but this really has evolved to be the "DTF'rs with the best taste in music" thread anyway, so

That kinda boggles my mind. I mean, the fact that people would do mosh pit for SX and Evergrey in US/Canada. Because I know they totally would in Russia, but I assumed audience in your country was better than that. I guess drunk guys are drunk guys regardless of where the gig takes place.

I saw Need/Evergrey in a small town in Germany (total of a hundred people in attendance maybe) in the second row last year, no sign of mosh pit at all.

Curious about Dynazty, their latest was pretty generic in my opinion.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

It wasn't a lot of diversity or growth over their debut, but was still highly enjoyable and fun as shit.

Anyone check out the new Lizzy Borden album? The reviews were fairly poor which surprised me because usually Lizzy has been consistent with putting out solid albums in the past.

But I checked out some songs on YouTube and the reviews are pretty spot on, it's sounding like a modern almost poppy sounding rockish album.

It's far removed from Love you to Pieces.
