Yeah, it definitely was.

So I just realized, I guess the only original member of Y&T I never got to meet and play with was Leonard.  Missed getting Joey's and Leonard's autographs on my Black Tiger CD too.  :(  Oh well.

This is a part of getting old that I hadn't really thought about - my heroes dying around me. And I don't like it. Going to have to get used to it.

I am through the Narnia track so far on the podcast (really enjoyed that one).

Yeah, I've spun that Meshiaak a couple of times - good stuff on that one.

I found the Vivaldi Metal Project to be pretty hit and miss for me.  Decent highs, but I found it could go off the rails REALLY quickly.  And as someone that has sung in a lot of choirs, the choir could have been MUCH better on this track.  Wasn't balance well and they weren't in tune with each other.  A bit painful on these ears.

From the very small amount I heard from Destruction, I know they aren't my cup of tea

bl5150

Not for me either Jay.

Solid but can't say it stands out from anything else around to be honest.

Ok, so here goes..

I had this dream where every time I turned on my computer all of these porn images would pop up. (And NO, assholes, that is NOT the Hath part!)
Um..anyway, my computer had some infection of some sort, so I contacted this guy to come look at it.

So turns out the guy is local, and he drives over on a lawnmower, except there's no one on the seat, but out from where the engine is crawls out this little dude, and he says, "I'm Big Hath", and it I'm like, "you're not even big. You're a midget",  and he looked just like Horowitz from Bad Boys!

I was listening to the debut from Blue Murder, that's a underrated gem in the hard rock world IMO. What's the opinion on that album and Brent what do you rate it?

bl5150

I thought it was about half killer , half filler Jay - probably somewhere around low-mid 80's as it does have a few classics (Blackhearted Woman, Billy, Valley of The Kings)

Sykes' output (or lack of) since 1987 has been criminally light on .   I think he needs a good songwriter to work with but he seems to be the sort of personality who just cannot work in a band situation.  Shame............and also a shame that the supposed collaboration with Portnoy never came to anything.  Those two would've produced Blabbermouth worthy material on a daily basis as they clashed in the studio :lol

TAC

It has Valley Of The Kings. That's it. I've tried. Bought it upon its release and was so disappointed.

The 2nd Blue Murder album...........now that was disappointing :lol    I have a feeling that if Blue Murder had been released prior to Whitesnake 1987 (how can you follow that?) it would have a bigger rep than it does.

Supposedly before Sykes decided to go it alone with the vocals he had auditioned Mark Free and Ray Gillen.   As much as I love Mark Free I am not sure if that would've worked but Ray Gillen and Sykes would be a match made in heaven I reckon.

jjrock88

Ray Gillen would have been perfect for Blue Murder. I never heard anything from the second album but the debut sounds like Tony Martin Sabbbath in some spots

Tony Martin also had a go with Blue Murder, he posted the other day on his FB page that there was a version
of Valley Of The Kings with him on vocals.

That Meridian was really good, classy stuff, never heard of them.

That second track (can't remember what it's called) didn't do anything for me, but the list of artists involved is impressive enough to warrant a check out.

The Kansas was not bad, but not really my thing.

wolfking

That Psycho Circus singer is trying too hard to sound like old school Tate, that's his problem.  Solid though.

I thought Sykes' vocals were not strong at all. It detracted from the album for me. There was nothing in there to really latch onto. And generally, the album is way too generic.

The Whitesnake album had some major bite on the production, but musically it was a lot stronger. Ainsley Dunbar sounds huge on it.

I can get that - I only ever thought of Sykes' vocals as passable.  Not bad enough to turn me off but not good enough to be a feature which means the music needs to be damn good to compensate.  On a few songs it it IMO , but the rest would no doubt be more attractive with a dedicated vocalist.

TAC

The vocals were both dull and uninspired, as I found the music on the album. I bought it immediately on release and it was a huge disappointment. Every now and then, Blue Murder comes up in the conversation here and last year, I had a run though it. Still disappointing.
One instance where the whole was not greater than the sum of its parts.

Kwyjibo

The name John Sykes pops up from time to time and almost everyone acts as he is the messiah come again or something like that. Apart from turning a bluesy hard-rock Whitesnake into a full metal onslaught on 1987 and shredding beyond the speed limit on said record, has he done anything to warrant that status? All I've heard from him did not impress me much, but maybe I'm missing something?

Totally legit question.

He was awesome on Thin Lizzy's Thunder And Lightning. And on the live album from that tour. There's a great BBC recording of the Reading '83 show.

Beyond Thin Lizzy (most of his time spent touring others material) Whitesnake and (if you like it) Blue Murder debut there really isn't much.   I was a huge fan after 1987 so continued to get sucked into paying huge $$ for his crappy solo albums post-Blue Murder , each one seemingly worse than the last.    Actually the album of ballads was the best by some way.....Loveland I think.

He is a big talent but has only thrived when paired with strong songwriters (Whitesnake/Lizzy)

TAC

Starting the Top 20 on the countdown.

Monument was a good album, despite lifting exact lines from Maiden.

Brent, WTF is "waffle"? :lol

Waffling.  I've vaguely heard people use that as a verb sparingly.

I've been on Stone Fury -- Burns Like A Star kick lately.  I wish that band continued.
