We should collaborate on something Brent.  :metal

I'll do an album with that name for sure!!

You'll have to teach me how to play again first  :-\   Not sure I could deal with being shit all over again  :lol   I have an old mate who comes around occasionally , looks at my guitars and says "you know man , it's a fucking crime those guitars sitting there doing nothing".  Every time I see him............first thing he says.  :lol

I've got a very nice drum set in my basement. Everyone that sees it asks "Do you play?" Um.. No! :lol
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I fancy hearing that Brent. My guitar playing was average at best, and these days is pretty shit as I don't get time to do it and the chops are gone.

Stuff I recorded 20 years ago?  :lol    I'll see what I can do.........I have a lot of stuff on tape that needs to be tidied up and digitised.  I think I have only done one track so far.   Once I have finished moving etc....I'll upload something (briefly  :lol ) to Youtube for you, as long as you don't mind a very shitty drum machine.  It was a collaboration between me and some dude (we were both studying music together) who is now a producer and doesn't like his old work being put out there for everyone to pick on .

He's a real party pooper this guy - I wanted to call our EP Meltdown on The Edge of Insanity and he wouldn't be in it  ;D

I started getting into recording about 13 yeas ago. Set up a recording studio in the attic then I met my partner and that was the end of that :lol my studio is now our bedroom.

I would like to hear your stuff, Kate's too. About the limit of my ability these days is some shitty blues jamming over a backing track.

And your mate's right. It's a fucking waste. You need to do it man  :metal

In the mid 2000s I recorded 14 complete songs at home. I played guitar and bass and even sang on some of them, the drums were programmed. While it was real fun, only a few selected VIPs have heard them and it is better that it stays like that

I was never that good on guitar and the fact that I haven't touched it for nearly seven years certainly didn't improve my playing.

That said, it would be interesting to hear what you guys play/have played.

I have a few of their albums and they are okay, but never grabbed my attention for repeated listens.  I guess 'meh' would cover my opinion on them.

Turns out I own;

1916
Ace of Spades
Bomber
Inferno
Iron Fist
Kiss of Death
Live at Brixton 87
On Parole
We Are Motorhead

I remember liking 1916, Inferno and Ace of Spades the best.  I think We Are Motorhead was alright too.  Overkill was the one I always wanted to get, just never got around to it.

if you have 9 albums from artists you think are "meh" then you're a lot more forgiving than me  :lol

I told you, quite a few years ago I had a 'problem.'  :lol  And I'm not really joking around, it was at a stage that it was in fact an issue, like a drug addiction.

You can't talk Brent, surely?!  :lol

Plus, Motorhead have almost 25 or so albums, so that's still well under 50%.  :rollin

Oh ffs. Sorry mate. No worries about your gender here mate  :lol

As for Motörhead, I do like their greatest hits. When I was getting into heavy music they were one of very few bands around. No Sleep til Hammersmith is a great live album. I wouldn't consider myself a fan and I haven't heard anything new since Killed By Death (which is a great song).

Checked for errors

Motorhead: I like them good enough though I have only two or three records. Ace Of Spades is the obvious classic and Kiss Of Death (a newer one from 2006) is surprisingly melodic.

But all in all they lack the variety that would make me buy more of their records.

Huh?  All my CDs are awesome  ;D

And one of the reasons that you've done so well in my roulette is that you've been great at picking great songs from bands I know but have written off based on sampling a few pretty average tracks.  I am pretty quick to forget about bands after one "meh" album let alone nine. .

Problem? What problem?

Just out of curiosity and while we're at it: How big is it?

Naturally I mean your music collection. I have close to 1.500 records (mostly CDs, some as digital albums only) but I think for some of you guys this would be just the weekend playlist.

1500 is pretty big and impressive.  I keep a log and it stands at 2426.  This doesn't include DVD's and any cd's that come with them.  That's all physical copies though.  I'm sure you have a lot more don't you Brent?

I'm within site of 6,000 albums from around 3000 artists I think (all melodic rock and metal basically)..................forgetting cassettes and vinyl.  I would say that there's probably over 1000 I have barely (or not) listened to , so I have some catching up to do  :lol  And I have no idea why I even have most of the vinyl as I never played vinyl - some are very collectible but for most I likely couldn't help myself when I saw 'em for $ 2 second hand and liked the covers.   Packed a few away today - never to be seen again but took a few photos.  I think I know why I might have bought the Hurricane- Slave To The Thrill one but otherwise not sure  ;D

Of those I would say around 2000 are CDs.  I don't bother with CDs now except for my top few all time bands.

A few of the vinyls............

I still have around a 100 records in my to-listen-to pile which is growing bigger and bigger. I just don't have the time I used to have when I was still young  (aeons ago) :'(. Those are not yet counted in the 1500, to all of those I have listened at least enough times to judge it and sometimes till the vinyl or cd is worn thin  :metal. Sure some of them are not as present as others.

All my vinyls from my youth I have now on cd, either transferred from said vinyl or newly bought and I sold my last vinyls some 15 years ago. I never bought cassettes, all the tapes I had were recorded from friend's vinyls and those that were worthy I have bought in cd since then.

And I was never one for collectible items. I sure like a nice or extraordinary packaging but it's very seldom that I am willing to spend the extra money.

When I say "collectible" I don't mean a regular release with deluxe/"limited edition" packaging ...........I'm talking real collectibles  ;)     I have never bothered with special packaging etc......unless there were extra tracks or the edition was a genuine rarity and not just marketing hype....so not often.

The vast majority of my collectibles relate to Van Halen.  I have a thing for Images and Words too (4 different editions and a JAP tour book :lol)   Still had to squeeze a Van Halen vinyl into the photo though............12" Jump.  :)

Damn, Freefall or VP not even listed on the JB website.  No chance of picking them up instore this weekend then.  Hopefully can get the Stryper and will get the Hoekstra if I see it.

Amazon was good with my order this week, a little over a week.  Express shipping will be even better.

Dude... Spotify is your friend.  They are both up there this morning.  So is Hoekstra's 13.

Addiction, definitely. In the 90s when I struggled to find decent music locally I bought some shit just because I had to buy something new  mushroom head and Cradle of Filth I'm looking at you  :lol

I tend to go for MP3 these days because of space unless it's one of the Chosen Few or a special edition. I have about 2000 CDs, e few hundred vinyl and cassettes. Do a lot of my listening on Spotify and Apple Music when I'm not in the car.

Most of my CDs vinyl and cassettes are stored in the attic and getting to them is a total pain.

Indeed they were jj.
The Mushroomhead got a great review in classic rock (I think) where they totally forgot to mention the shouting - in fact they said what a great melodic voice the guy had. If only there was more of that and less Slipnot style shouting.

The CoF, well there was a song on kerrang channel that was good. Rest of the album was shit. It cured me from buying shit though.

No excuse these days with the chances to sample things first. I don't buy blind very often these days.

Back in the 90s I had to rely on the mini reviews in the brochures from A couple of specialist music shops I used by mail order, and chatting with the staff on the phone who soon got to know what I liked.

I just recently "freed" my self from the music-buying addiction.

I just felt kinda crazy buying CDs when i didn´t have a proper CD Player in my house anymore.

But i still have my collection, probably around 800-1000 CDs. It was a compulsion, really.

Killed By Death is awesome! I love that song.

I haven't bought a new Motorhead album since 1916. I do like a lot of their stuff, but Lemmy does grate on me after awhile.

My favorite album of theirs is probably Orgasmatron. I also love Rock n Roll and Another Perfect Day. I loved the Brian Robertson era, including the King Biscuit live album with an awesome version of Shine.

But all in all they lack the variety that would make me buy more of their records.

I've sampled a lot of their more recent albums, and I must say, they are all at least solid. But with Motorhead, I just don't think there'd be enough replayability to warrant a purchase.

Yeah no excuses for buying something without sampling beforehand.

Obviously for me there are still some bands that I would buy without hesitation and not hearing anything before hand (Maiden, Saxon, Primal Fear, Accept etc).

But in the past I've bought albums just because the album cover looked cool.  That wouldnt happen again lol

One of my blind buys from the early 90s was Images & Words, bought only because my sister's friend said that this band called Dream Theater was good. That compensates for a lot of not so good blind buys.

Nowadays I only buy discs from my favorite bands without hearing a note. Everything else gets a pre-listen somewhere. And nowadays I can sometimes wait for the record to drop in price after a year or two after it's release date before I buy it. That wouldn't have happened like ten years ago. Back then I needed everything on the day it came out, no matter what price it was.
