Also, though it's way overplayed at this point, here's a good example of why the theme song to Friends was so effectively well done.  One night, before I had ever even seen ONE episode of Friends (this was probably 95 or 96), I was driving home and heard this song on the radio.  "I'll Be There For You".  I thought to myself "Damn, this sounds like something you'd hear as theme music for a sitcom".  Again, I had never seen an episode of Friends, EVER.  I had absolutely no idea that this WAS, in fact, the Friends theme song.  It just sounded like sitcom theme music to me.

Parenthood's theme is great (Bob Dylan's Forever Young) and perfect for the show. It was first played at the end of the pilot episode, and was really emotional (for me) when it happened. Since then they used it as the opening theme. Great song. Unfortunately, for the old episodes they changed it on Netflix about a year ago... not sure why.

from the late 70's through the early 90's, if Mike Post was listed as "Theme By" it most likely was a great theme.

Ah yes, I dunno how I forgot this one! It's quite simple and short but that's also exactly why I like it. It's foreboding and gets the point across while being a bit catchy and neat.
