How's the Soto?
Jeff wasn't too happy with me on Facebook the other day when I said the direction wasn't for me. He seemed to think I must be some pink n fluffy fan wanting another Eyes album. Had to put him right
I love Jeff (as an artist and a person) but he seems to have his knickers in a twist with all these backhanded remarks he's throwing around ("I'm glad that the melrock crowd hate it " etc..) I think he is barking up the wrong tree as most of my favourite material of his (Malmsteen,Talisman) is heavier than this plodding stuff in many ways. He seems to assume that everyone who likes melodic rock wants another W.E.T album , whereas I certainly do not.
Personally I think his voice suits the modern style quite well - I just don't happen to like the style with the plodding downtuned guitars/modern rock. I was exhausted by the end of it. I am also sick of the "you liar, you done me wrong, I am gonna kick your ass" style lyrics that he seems to love writing these days. He's trying too hard to be a mean dude.
Having said all that I don't think it's awful or as bad as some are making out - tracks like Freakshow,Unblame,Awakened etc.. do have some good qualities. I just really have no real desire to hear them regularly.
Rating: 70%
PS the best track for me is the Apple bonus track Cracking The Stone. The other bonus is better than just about everything on the regular disc too
Add those two tracks and I would rate it a few pts higher.
