Jaga Jazzist: One-Armed Bandit (2010)

Really cool proggy jazz-rock, one of my favourite albums from 2010.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Good to see Sacred Groove get a mention - great album aside from those   tracks with Mandy Lion.

Well?

Solid lineup indeed, news to me though.

I'm about half way through it and I'd say it is definitely worth you checking out , but it hasn't quite met expectations.  At their best it can be a bit like a mix of Strato and Judas Priest.  Depending on the second half I'd say we're in for a rating around 75-80%

Here's a couple of the better tracks

Last Farewell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ_y_HAlKew

All One : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdTyoTpQpZ8

Unfortunately on All One the chorus doesn't live up to the cool Priest like verse and Last Farewell , while really good , is just a bit too familiar in Strato style..

The last track on the Shadowquest is actually a Priest cover - you might like this jj.  Not a bad version....pretty damn good in fact.
