Wrapped up The Rftwar Saga earlier this evening. I thought it was a very solid piece of 80s fantasy. I'll be reading the next series sometime next year. On to my next batch of current reads: Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt and Madonna: A Rebel Life by Mary Gabriel

Just finished the Shattered Sea trilogy by Joe Abercrombie and I think I've now read everything he's published. For me he's much better when writing in a grand scope, his First Law and Age Of Madness trilogies are outstanding and the Shattered Sea books aren't bad either.

From his stand alone novels Best Served Cold was a fun read, Red Country was okay and  The Heroes and Sharp Ends (short story collection) mostly boring.

Now on to Elevation by Stephen King.

Hex was fantastic. It's easily going to be one of my favorite horror novels from this century. Going to some classic sci-fi with Time Enough for Love by Robert Heinlein.

Haven't been reading anything for the last two months, now back to it with The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin

I took a break for about a month.  I was burned out on reading and haven't had much time - decided to catch up on some movies and tv shows when I can.

But yesterday, the new Michael Connelly book came out, and my hold on an e-copy from the library was up, so I'm reading that.  It's nice to get a new release book from the library right away!

I finished Aurora by Kim Stanley Robinson. Really great hard science fiction story about the practical problems with a generation ship. I've heard people complain about his character work, but honestly, between this, the Mars trilogy, and Galileo's Dream (his books that I've read so far) I think he does a great job with that too. He just doesn't always make his characters sympathetic or likable which I think is what people dislike. In my opinion he's pretty much the best hard science fiction writer around right now.

Also reread Ada Palmer's Too Like the Lightning since I have the other three books now. Just as insane as it was the first time around; if someone asked me what it was about I don't even know how I would describe it. But it's really good, and you should read it.

Haven't been updating lately.

1. Absolutely loved Hex. Favorite horror book of the year so far

2. Finished two things. First, Sign Here by Claudia Lux which was very meh. Then, read Claudia's Story by Ashley Marie Whitter which is a graphic novel adaptation of Claudia's bit from Interview with the Vampire told from her POV. That I enjoyed.

3. Sadly, had to DNF The Stormlight Archives. I tried reading Words of Radiance, but it never really clicked with me

4. Still reading the Madonna book. It's really quite good. Still have over 600 pages to go.

5. Also, currently reading Never Die by Rob J. Hayes and A History of Fear by Luke Dumas

WoR you gotta make it through at least the first 1/3. It truly is one of the major Sanderlanches in the last 1/3 and I understand why many people DNF. It really is worth it in the end. If you haven't tried other Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a bit more easily digested from what I've seen.

Only planning to read the conclusion of the Blaine story arc.  I picked up a copy of the graphic novel, The Gunslinger Born, a few years ago which tells the Wizard and Glass story. Figure that i should actually read it for a change.

I was of the impression that The Navigator's Children (last book in Tad Williams new series The Last King Of Osten Ard) is published this november. Now I see that it is planned for november 2024.
Was I wrong or is it pushed back for a whole year?

just read a chapter in blood meridian where the expriest recounts the meeting of the scalphunters with the judge. crazy good writing there. really enjoying this book even tho it's dark as all hell

it was certainly something. i need to re-read it next year. a lot of it was kind of just washing over me and i was struggling with some of the finer details at each stop but i think that just means i should revisit it, it was so fucking good. the judge is such a fucking character

The Judge is the most intense character in the English language since Shakespeare, IMO.
