I picked up a couple new reads for vacation this week. 11/22/63 from Stephen King and Nos4a2 from his son Joe.

Really enjoyed both books, you can definitely tell that Joe Hill is his father's son.

Currently most of the way through Finders Keepers, which I'm also liking.

I read Solaris by Stanislaw Lem and started with Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower (I love the movie).

James, the Brother of Jesus: The Key to Unlocking the Secrets of Early Christianity and the Dead Sea Scrolls by Robert Eisenman

He's kind of crazy, but his heart's in the right place.

I've read that one. I find it fascinating. Religious history has always intrigued me, especially once you weed through the nonsense.
It's a re-read for me.

Yes, I'm re-reading a dense book of obscure scholarship, the results of which I don't even agree with.

What am I doing with my life?
God bless America, I am still only halfway through this FML
Finally finished this book.  Thank God the second volume is only about half as long, but I will wait a while before plunging into that one again.

Re-reading Roger Zelazny's Amber series, starting with Nine Princes in Amber.  This would so make a great TV/film series.

Just started yesterday but I was out all afternoon after so I read only 2 chapters so far. Will update in few hours to tell you more. However, while reading those two chapters I had feeling this will become one of my favorite books :) I like Neil's style and this one is about childhood, has that nostalgic feel and I love that.
BTW I didn't like his American Gods that much :-\

Just reading the last book in The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. What a gloriously different fantasy series.

Not been on this thread before so not sure how it runs but if we are discussing fantasy series then The Wheel of Time is all I need say. That series ruined all fantasy series for me, it is epic in every sense of the word. I have multiple WoT tattoos and I literally and quite seriously read and reread that series over a 10 year period reading very little in between!!

I finally had closure on the series when the last book came out in early 2013 and haven't touched the series since. I still look forward to rereading it in the future now I know the full story. Might give it another 5 years though. Any fans?

@Prog Snob, I was reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane today and it is definitely an interesting read. I'm still not sure how I feel about magical realism but it is more believable here (if I may say it when talking about fantasy) because story is almost fairy tale :)

I'm planning on getting the entire Dark Tower series books, maybe purchasing the first 3 and once I finish them, continue.

How much do you recommend them?

I've just started the last book. It's a really weird series and like nothing I've ever read (in a good way). The series was written over the course of about 20 years give or take and it makes it a strange read, at least for me. Each book has it's own kind of feel and they don't all flow together like one large story (in my opinion) but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Book one is quite short, loads of weird shit happens and I was left not really knowing what was really going on. Not everything about the world it's set in is explained, or what's really evening going on at times.

Book 2 is my favourite, it introduces some more characters and it's more structured.

Book 3 is kind of cool again but feels different.

Book 4 is like a whole prequel story.

Book 5 is all different again in a different setting but feels more structured than some of the other books.

Book 6 was really quite strange and there was quite a lot of things that I didn't really understand and wasn't sure why they happened (but I may not have been paying enough attention).

Just started book 7 and it's off to a good start. It's freaking huge and I have literally no clue where the story will go or what will happen.

That probably didn't really help  :lol other than this series I've only read Carrie and The Shining by Stephen King so I can't tell you how it compares to some the majority of his work but I do enjoy it. It doesn't spoon feed you the answers and it really surprises you by going all over the place. It certainly isn't predictable at all and it does have some really good characters.

Hope that rambling mess helped in some way

Thanks.  I think I'll check it out. It sounds intriguing.

I've read the whole series and my favourites are The Tomb of Atuan and The Farthest Shore, the second and the third book of the series. The first one isn't too shabby though.

I've got to say though, my favourite Le Guin book is The Dispossessed, and my second favourite is The Left Hand of Darkness. I think these two are miles ahead of anything else she has written.

I will definitely check those two after I finish Eartsea Quartet (other two books are short stories, right?)

Not quite. Tales from Earthsea is a collection of short stories (and I think there are five of them or something like that, so it's still quite a read, and from what I remember, this was actually a great read, I really enjoyed this one), but The Other Wind is a full-fledged novel.

Just finished King's Finders Keepers. Was very underwhelmed, especially after enjoying Mr Mercedes quite a bit.

Just started A Feast For Crows but I'm wondering what other high fantasy I should delve into after A Dance With Dragons. My friend recommended the Malazan Book Of The Fallen series which seems sort of interesting. To clarify the thing I'm loving about the ASOFAI books is the realism of the characters and interactions along with the more political type of storylines within the setting as opposed to straight up magic and mythical things. The only other fantasy I've read was The Riddlemaster Trilogy which wasn't bad but seemed a bit more hokey fantasy than I would've liked. It could just be the style of writing too but Martin's books are just engaging as hell.
