Have you read them before? I have so I'm gradually going through them again but generally reading a couple or more other books between each one.

I have not. I only discovered discworld shortly before Pratchetts death from my reccomendations list on goodreads. He died about a week after I read the Light Fantastic.

Still reading Imajica. Holy hell this is a long book.

I actually just ordered this book online. Waiting for it to come in the mail.

I've got a little more than 200 hundred pages left so I'm going to finish it. It's not terrible, but it's not great either. I've been going through all of Barker's stuff and honestly this may be my least favorite thing I've read so far. The foundation for an amazing story is there but he jumped around to much and there are so many twists that it's hard to really care about any of the characters.

It is connected to the Starship Troopers movie, though kind of loosely, I've heard.

The song is maybe connected to the book, the movie is definitely connected to the book because it is based on it, maybe loosely, haven't finished the book yet, so can't comment on the differences. So if the song is connected to the book it is also somehow connected to the movie (which came some 20 years after the song). I'm still not sure if the song has more in common with the book other than the title.

The Way of Kings -  by Brandon Sanderson

You know what I really dig about it?

It's a fantastically unintuitive setting (world), yet the author feels no compulsion to hold your hand and bring you along gently. He just tells the story at a proper pace without spending unnecessary time describing the settings. He just trusts the reader to get it, eventually. It's very off putting at first but as you go along the story takes on a personal(?) feeling because your own mind has had to fill in the details of the painting.

Also, dialog is this Sanderson's strong suit. His characters have their own distinct way of talking and a few are quite funny!

Anyway, yeah, great book!

Once I finish going through Clive Barker, I'm going to jump into Sandersons stuff. Would the Mistborn trilogy be a good place to start?

Yeah, I love The Way of Kings. Great book, if a bit difficult to get into at first. When you do, it totally pays off though. One of the Sanderson's best IMO.

Mistborn trilogy is probably the best way to start with his stuff. The writing may feel a bit amateurish on the first book, but I actually think The Final Empire is his best book so far. Great pacing, setting, everything. I wasn't too big on the second and third books, but I'm rereading the series now and half-way through The Well of Ascension I must say I like it much better on re-read.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

The first Mistborn book is my favorite too, even though the series as a whole is still fantastic.

I still haven't read Shadows of Self, since I decided to re-read the series first. And I've ordered Bands of Mourning too.

With Calamity (third and final book in YA Reckoners series) being released these very days, I'm thinking of giving those series a shot. The description sounds like something I totally won't enjoy, but it's Sanderson so there's a chance I will like it. Have any of Sanderson's fans read it and what are your opinions?

Seriously? Huh, well I'm only half-way through the only book of his I've ever read and the dialog has engaged me... so, what do I know. Not much, as it happens.

I've always found Sanderson's characters/dialogue to be his strongest point.

Though that's not to say he's weak elsewhere, because I find his worldbuilding/plotting to be really intricate and well thought out as well.

Basically what I'm saying is I like everything he does, I guess.

Really? I haven't read any of his work beyond Mistborn and the existing Stormlight novels, but the characters stand out as his biggest weakness. He does a good job with his main characters, but everyone beyond that is shafted.
Only a prog fan would try to measure how much they enjoy a song by an equation. :lol

Same here. Excellent dialogues, but the characters are, eh... Now that well constructed, unlike his worldbuilding which is extraordinary.
