I FINALLY got around to finishing Weaveworld by Clive Barker. I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately things got in the way resulting in me having less time to read than I usually do.
Do you read Sutter Cane?

At some point in high school, I bought "The Great and Secret Show" on a whim, and then became a huge fan. I had never read anything this imaginative. I read a couple other books like Weaveworld and loved them. Then over time I read a couple others and didn't find them nearly as entertaining. I know his style changed, but I am sure my tastes did as well.

Christine is a Top Tier SK book for me. I read it twice, and it is just as powerful the second time as it was the first. Very colloquial, humorous, yet haunting.

Just finished 1Q84: Book Two by Haruki Murakami. I'm absolutely loving this man's writing. Every metaphor, every little story, somehow has a purpose. And some are even used by other characters to express different yet related things. Oh, and the story here was superb. Some weird shit on the las 7 or so chapters, but with a very mature focus. I can't wait to get the final book of this trilogy - those plot twists at the end are driving me crazy :dangerwillrobinson:

I read Norwegian Wood a few years ago and didn't like it very much, but I plan to try out at least one more. Probably Kafka On the Shore, that's the one I've seen the most praise for.

Currently reading Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell ahead of it appearing on TV and potentially getting popular and me thus potentially getting bombarded with spoilers on a book I've wanted to read for quite a while.

It's unfolding very gradually, but it's pretty good. I like the way the book presents magic. As opposed to how magic is presented in a book like Harry Potter i.e. as something that is apparently insanely dangerous, yet they are teaching to young children, and thus becomes a toy that is used willy-nilly by brat kids in their spare time, here, magic is something that the very rare magicians who can actually perform it use quite hesitantly for the repercussions that even one serious spell can trigger. The book is also kind of taking the piss out of some of the very criticisms that I've seen people make of it - it's too slow and boring and there's not enough magic in it - through the upper classes of London who grow bored of Mr Norrell when they realise he isn't going to do cheap tricks for them at dinner parties. Yet it takes the piss out of Mr Norrell at the same time for being quite such a pompous ass about his craft.

Still reading Isaac Asimov's Guide to Science, and inly about 1/3 of the way through it.

Lots of interesting info.  At the turn of the 20th century scientists were still debating about the existence of atoms, only in 1935 was the neutron discovered, and sustained nuclear fission was possible less than 10 years later.

Just read Welcome to Braggsville bu T.Geronimo Johnson Really different but really great.
Neil Gaiman and Philosophy Gods Gone Wild  Interesting theories...
The Pines by Blake Crouch The first book Wayward Pines is based on. Different don't want to ruin the show by revealing anything.
The Stranger by Harlan Coben  Back to his better writing.

About to start Miracle at Augusta by James Patterson and pocket book Liars Poke by Michael Lewis (first time reading one of these may be easier on the train!)

I'm currently reading Peter F Hamilton's Commonwealth Saga, and am halfway through the 1,200-page second and final book, Judas Unchained. Goddamn this stuff is epic. Definite similarities with GRMM's A Song of Ice and Fire series, but in a sci-fi, rather than fantasy, setting. Huge scope, expansive stories and characters, and amazing balance of human drama within a more epic setting.

House of Leaves is one of my favorite books ever, so I kinda doubt The Familiar is going to be able to live up to that for me.  However, I'm already enjoying it a lot more than Only Revolutions or The Fifty Year Sword; it's definitely interesting.

I'll try to remember to post more when I'm finished with it.  But that might take a while; House of Leaves took me a couple months to read, and The Familiar probably isn't going to move much faster for me.
Sincerely,
Jaffa

Re-reading the Dark Tower series.  Currently on The Gunslinger.
I started re-reading the series a while back, but stopped before finishing Wizard and Glass which was my favorite of the series.  The first time around, I felt like I was trudging through Song of Susannah and The Dark Tower.  I've since donated the books to my local library since they were taking up room on my shelf, and I knew I would likely not read them again.

Re-reading the Dark Tower series.  Currently on The Gunslinger.

I will do this someday. I read the books 6 and 7 in a mad dash to get to the end, I feel like I rushed through some sections. Are you going to work in Wind Through the Keyhole as well?

Dark Tower is pretty awesome in my opinion, though Book 5 is mightily slow. Still a very very good series, and I should definitely get around to rereading them.

Taking a break from Asimov's Guide to Science to read Your Inner Fish.  Seems like it should be a relatively quick read, as it's written for a general audience.

I'm taking a break from Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell and have started re-reading the Animorphs books I was into as an early teen.

They're adorably '90s childrens books corny, and the writing, though not perfect or legendary, has held up quite well.

I had no idea that he had a new book out! I couldn't even get a few pages into Only Revolutions, I've never read Finnegans Wake but I imagine it's a very similar experience :lol

Good to hear that you are enjoying this new book more, I might check it out.

So I just finished Sophie's World, by Jostein Gaarder. It took me 2 months and a half, because I haven't had much time for reading this year, unlike 2014, in which I read the complete Wheel of Time series (14 doorstoppers books and a prequel, damn) and a few more titles. But I really enjoyed it. It got slightly better and better till the last chapters. Although it's a book on philosophy, at times it really like like it was oriented towards teenagers - some concepts could have been explained better, or not oversimplified. But this was my first time into any kind of philosophy so I don't care. I was very intrigued by the chapter about existencialism - it described my thought process with such accuracy it felt surreal. I'll definitely have to read something by Dartre or Camus soon.

Now with Game of Thrones season 5 having wrapped up, I'm reading A Feast For Crows/A Dance With Dragons. I found some website with a recommendation on how to jump between and read them simultaniously. So that's neat.
