Duma Key by Stephen King - An ok book that would've been much better if you cut at least 100 pages out.

Someone said this before, but this is pretty much most of King's books apparently. :)

I think that trope is sometimes valid, but not as applicable with some of his more recent work. Uninspired as much of his post 2010 work has been, I think it has been more focused and concise than much of his releases between the 1990s and 2010.

Just finished Later. It was... good, fine. I enjoyed reading it, but it left no impact on me. A week from now I'd struggle to give you a good synopsis of it.

I'm finally continuing with Harry Dresen, Peace Talks by Jim Butcher.

And continuing with Battle Ground, oh how I hate cliffhangers. Good thing I can read those books back to back.

Years ago, I fell in love with Let the Right One In and always wanted to read something else from the author, so I'm giving Little Star by John Ajvide Lindqvist a shot

I bought this one a while ago but it's still on the floor (where all unread books go until I read them). Should be getting to it soon though.

I'm reading Le Guin's Wizard of Earthsea, the first thing of hers I've read outside of a short story and I'm quite enjoying it so far; I just started today but I'll probably finish it tonight or tomorrow (it is fairly short, <300 pages).

For Earthsea cycle, I think The Tombs of Atuan was my favourite by far. Been a while since I read the whole thing.

That was a swing and a miss. Let's try Horror Films of the 1970s by John Kenneth Muir. I read his book on the SFF films of the 70s last year and quite enjoyed it, so hopefully I'll enjoy this

That was really good and leaves a lot of opportunities for further storylines.

Spoiler: A marriage with Lara could be fun. But Murphy dead? Really? Has this some purpose for the future or was JB just feeling a little GRRM?

I think Butcher said something along the lines of Harry's love interests are getting in the way of him properly finishing the series. Says it slowed the overall arc

Boy, did I ever. Favorite book of the month so far, but let's see what Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff has to say about that. His Nevernight trilogy was a big win for me, so I'm expecting good things here

Read The Bloody Black Flag by Steve Goble. A bit of a locked room mystery on a pirate ship. Enjoyable, quick read. Liked it enough to read the follow-up The Devil's Wind.

Okay, I really liked it. I actually thought this was fantastic. Probably the best book I've read this year unless I'm forgetting something (not counting re-reads), couldn't put it down.

Finished Empire of the Vampire yesterday. I liked it, but nowhere near as much as Nevernight. It dragged on a tad, and I wasn't a fan of the back and forth narration. For the most part, I think Kristoff could have kept it in a linear fashion. I will still continue on with the series. I also ended up reading The Ballad of Black Tom, which I was not that big a fan of. Lovecraftian pastiche is very hit and miss for me. Now, I'm currently reading Pandemonium by Daryl Gregory, which I am enjoying

My reading is all over the place. I can thank university for that.

But I guess what I am currently reading is:

Norton Anthology of American Literature: 1914-1945, and
Broadview Anthology of Victorian Poetry and Poetic Theory.

A lot of it is genuinely interesting, but so much just puts me to sleep.

Haven't been reading much lately. Partly because I didn't want to re-read anything, and I've been too lazy to pick up the new Jack Reacher or order another french book to read. Finally decided to grab a book from the library. I figured I'm there with my kids every week, why not actually get a book for myself. Pleasant finding out that my local branch has french novels. As they say, two birds.

La Glace Noire by Michael Connelly

I read one Bosch novel a few years ago, and it was pretty good.

Okay, so I DNF'd that last book, so instead I finally finished Secrets of the Force, a very good oral history of Star Wars. Few downsides were the authors interviewed Ray Morton way too much. Even though his opinions were valid, he came off sounding too much like Comic Book Guy. I was also a bit disappointed Rogue One and Solo were glossed over.

Then, I finished Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote. It was alright, nothing too special. I feel accomplished I managed to read it.

Now, I'm reading Stephen Sondheim: A Life by Meryle Secrest
