The new Crouch was ultimately a disappointment, at least compared to his last book. He went way too off the rails on this one, for my taste anyway. About to read my first Zadie Smith with The Autograph Man. See how that goes

I just recently finished J.D. Salinger's story collection Nine Stories and really did not care for most of them. I was scratching my head a lot wondering what in the world happened.

Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist. For some reason I though this was YA novel. But it's so sick and dark I wouldn't recommend it to younger people :lol

Proven guilty by Jim Butcher

I love this series but I find it a little but silly and annoying that Harry is always beat up, tired, wounded and on the brink of exhaustion at least after a quarter into the book and he barely makes it to the end without falling asleep or dropping dead. That's putting it on a but too much imo.

Yeah.... Basically every single book has the same formula. Just insert the name of a different bad guy and you're off. Still fun reads.

Now by the wonders of international travel I've just stumbled upon recently released A Little Hatred by Joe Abercrombie, looking forward to digging into it this evening.

This didn't work out on account of me being stupid and placing that book into the luggage bag while packing. However while wandering around the airport I've bought A Time of Dread by John Gwynne to read on the flight and have been finishing it for the last week. Alright sword and sorcery novel, some reveals were way too obvious, and I think it's a little bit overrated for its 4.4 on Goodreads, but honestly it's alright, yeah. It's in the vein of Blood Song and what was it, The Emperor's Blade, except it's actually good. So there's that.

Now I'm into Dreams of Steel by Glen Cook and I plan to read A Little Hatred right after that.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Dreams of Steel was pretty good although I hoped the plot would be resolved in this book. It wasn't, and I don't have the next book so that sucks :lol

Now I'll tackle A Little Hatred by Joe Abercrombie and then I definitely need to read something less grimdark-y.

All My Colors was a huge hit for me. Definitely one of the surprises of the year

Anyway, now reading The Warden by Anthony Trollope. I'm taking a break from horror for a bit to read something for victober. Trollope and I have not got along well yet. I was not the biggest fan of Can You Forgive Her and gave up on The Way We Live Now, so hopefully something sticks

Back to horror with Legion by William Peter Blatty. The Exorcist is one of my favorite book to movie combinations. Interested to see how the sequel stacks up

Finished the Southern Reach Trilogy. Honestly not sure what the fuss was all about. I thought it was just OK and a bit of a slog at times.

I read that one not too long ago. My least favorite blatty book that I've read so far. Which is a shame because I absolutely love the movie. I feel like the man was a better screenwriter than an author.

While the exorcist book and movie are pretty close in quality from what I remember, The Legion and Ninth configuration films I enjoyed a lot more than the original books. He seemed to be much better at deciding what to cut from the movies than his books that can devolve into rambling for several pages at any time.

Yeah, it was nowhere near as good as the first book, but it was okay. Would love to see the movie one of these days

Now getting in to a classic, The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells

Fantastic choice. I liked Dirty Job a little better, but still one of Moore's better novels.

This was quite possibly my favourite book from Joe, big improvement compared to The First Law trilogy in my opinion.

Continuing my fantasy streak with The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter.

What did you think?

I just finished a pretty good book called "The Unseen World: A Novel" by Liz Moore.  It started a little slow but about a quarter of the way in, I couldn't put it down.

Next up for me is Ronan Farrow's "Catch and Kill"
