7 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. The girl addy the bookstore recommended it, so we'll see how it goes.

Inside Oscar by Mason Wiley and Damien Bona. I may be biting off more than I can chew, reading an even bigger book after the last one, but screw it, life is short and the Academy Awards fascinate me

Really digging this book. It's written like a VH1 Behind The Music episode where it's presented as a script of sorts. It details the rise and fall of the fictional band Daisy Jones & The Six and their mysterious breakup in 1979. It kinda feels like a fictional Fleetwood Mac. It's fun and immersive

...now after a long King hiatus, reading The Outsider.

Well that was massively.... underwhelming. It wasn't bad, I was genuinely interested enough in the plot to be intrigued to pick it up every night before bed. But it read like the novel of a man who, dare I say, seems out of compelling ideas.

One of my goals this year is trying to read more world literature, so I'm going to be reading A True Novel by Minae Mizimura

I decided to change my mind, because I'm crazy, and instead decided to read Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens

Been mostly rereading some of Sanderson's and Butcher's books (really excited by the fact that Peace Talks is progressing again), but it's time to return to some new (for me) material.

So I brought a copy of Frank Herbert's Dune with me. I've never read it, never played any PC games, never watched anything, and I know almost nothing about the universe—except that they've got spice and sand worms.

Let's see how it goes.

I’ve attempted to read Dune over a dozen times and have failed prior to completing the first few chapters every time .

We’re you able to pick up Red Sister and Grey Sister yet?

I’m pretty confident we’ll get Peace Talks this year. Butcher seems motivated to get it done .

I watched the movie when I was a kid and loved it! I don't remember how old I was, or how old I was when I tackled the book, but it was a slog. I don't know how much knowing the story helped or hurt the experience, but I didn't enjoy reading it at all. I read it again many years later, and it was just as uninteresting the second time.

So I started The Gunslinger. About halfway through and it's both awesome and very confusing :P
And now, almost exactly 3 years after I began, I've finished with The Dark Tower. Jesus I'm a slow reader :lol

But I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and I don't mind the ending myself - I can't think of one that feels as "right" as that one. Now I hope to get The Wind Through the Keyhole soon, and maybe one of the companion books or the comics.

Quite pleased with myself that I was able to finish a 300 page novel in one sitting. It was decent, but not as good as Forever and a Day

Anyway, finishing up the month by reading Volume 3 of The Complete Peanuts

So I brought a copy of Frank Herbert's Dune with me. I've never read it, never played any PC games, never watched anything, and I know almost nothing about the universe—except that they've got spice and sand worms.

Let's see how it goes.

Finished this. I don't know, the world-building is pretty great and definitely my favourite thing about the novel. The plot I didn't find all that great, and it felt a bit rushed, especially with the two-years time skip. The dialogue felt a bit random sometimes, too. Still enjoyable, probably will pick up the second novel in the future.

Now trying to dive into another—apparently—classic, The Black Company by Glen Cook. My favourite bookstore finally (after seven months of waiting) got the omnibus edition containing the first three books in the series, so of course I bought it and hopefully it's good.

Deathconsciousness, by Dan Barret. Basically the album's booklet, it's an essay about a fictional old religion centered around death. Joyful reading so far  :corn

I absolutely loved that book! Nicks observations about life, dying, friendship, love and science are priceless.

Really looking forward to getting my hands on Holy Sister by Mark Lawrence tomorrow. I'm going to be finishing up the Elenium by David Eddings tonight so I can jump right into Holy Sister when I get home from work.

Foundation by Isaac Asimov.  I'm not really familiar with science fiction, so I read that this is a great example and a must read.  It is a very grand and complex story, but it's more political fiction than science fiction.  I found that to be true in Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land too.  I'm more interested in fiction that stretches and extrapolates what is possible, while still weaving humanity's role in that.

Now trying to dive into another—apparently—classic, The Black Company by Glen Cook. My favourite bookstore finally (after seven months of waiting) got the omnibus edition containing the first three books in the series, so of course I bought it and hopefully it's good.

Okay, so finished that, finished Shadows Linger and also finished The White Rose. I felt the overall mythology and the whole big picture was done very well, but the minor details were kinda meh. Like I really should've expected that cause this isn't high fantasy, but the setting is high fantasy and seeing all the big magic battles skipped because the story is from the PoV of a physician with "I slept. All the magic users had a blast last night, eighteen of them died" is just aaarrghhhh. Each book was better than the previous one though.

Now trying The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie, a hundred pages in, it's super dull so far. If it keeps going like that, it's gonna be my first DNF in ages.
