Just started the second book on the Mistborn trilogy, The Well of Ascension. I might jus read it in English because the spanish translation is awful. Not only it makes the narrative feel amateur, but also makes huge mistakes like de-formalizing dialogues. Some conversations are written in a very informal way when the situation requires it to be damn formal. It will slow down my rythm a lot, but I can't keep reading it in spanish.

Beautiful You by Chuck Palahniuk was...weird. It was pretty funny, and pretty strange. I'm a long time fan of his earlier works, but this was a bit different.

I thought Mr. Mercedes was perfectly fine for what it was.

I had little interest in reading Revival, but it's been growing a bit recently.

Just finished The Well of Ascension, second book on the Mistbon trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. Although I thought the first book was nice despite some flaws and cliches, I didn't expect this. At all. A fucking complex political and strategical game with so many plot twists that blew away my mind. Like this.

I knew Brandon was good, because his conclusion of the Wheel of Time was brilliant, but man, how many times did he fooled me? Made me believe something which was not true at all? The epilogue is just... :eek . I'm seriously wanting to read the next one.

It is also amazing. Although the first one is still my favorite. Also, if you haven't already, you should check out his Stormlight Archive series.

I'm not sure about unfinished series (I'm looking at you, Rothfuss). I'm sure I'll love the books, but they are, by now, just two of ten planned. And Brandon seems to take his time, working on several things at the same time. I'm looking forward to starting a new series after this book (and The Alloy of Law), like the EarthSea cycle.

Brandon is very fast, even for a fantasy writer. He said that he plans to release two Stormlight books every three years once tWoT was completed, and considering his past work, I am compelled to believe that he will meet this goal.

As for Mistborn, I will hold back comments until you finish.

Full Force and Effect by Mark Greaney (published under the Tom Clancy name). This is my favorite story by Greaney so far. Lots of spy intrigue and mystery, and the story is just really cool overall. The ending does smack of wish fulfillment but it's a pretty awesome wish and one that I happen to share so I'll give it a pass.

Just finished The Hero of Ages, final book on the original Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. Although it wasn't as mindblowing as book two, this was really great overall. Amazing plot twists, and stunning world-building :hefdaddy . Nice conclusion to the trilogy. This dude can seriously make epic fantasy - no one could have finished the WoT series better. Looking forward to reading The Alloy of Law, set in the same world but 300 years in the future.

The Hero of Ages is my favorite conclusion to a fantasy series. The ending is unexpected, but is true to the characters and makes sense from a worldbuilding perspective. More importantly, it is not a Deus Ex Machina ending. I love how the revelations about the magic system drive the book and answer questions and odd details left over from the first two volumes. On rereads, it becomes exceedingly clear how well thought out it was.

Merely talking about The Hero of Ages makes me want to read the trilogy again.

Yeah, Sanderson made up for the Deus Ex Machina of the first book's ending. Now it makes sense, but I felt cheated when I read it. By the way, opinions on The Alloy of Law? Was thinking of starting either it or Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy.

Alloy of Law is not all that essential, especially since it ends in a way that demands a yet to be released sequel. Brandon has said that these books are a lead-in to a second Mistborn trilogy, which is supposed to take place in a setting similar to the modern day. I have not read the other, but a trilogy is more likely to be a complete story, so I would recommend that over Alloy of Law.

The next trilogy hasn't been written yet, though. Unless you mean he should hold out until it is?

Oh, in the last sentence of my previous post, I was referring to the Farseer trilogy Sacul mentioned, not the unwritten second Mistborn trilogy. I was trying to say that Alloy of Law is not an urgent read.

The first book of the Farseer trilogy was missing on the book store, but should arrive on Friday. This leaves me enough time to read an old copy I found of Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain. Gave it several opportunities as a child, but never managed to finish it. I might appreciate it now.

Recently listened to The Martian as an audiobook. Decent book, but I think it will translate into a great movie eventually. Finished A Feast For Crows last night, although it's not as good as the previous 3, I still enjoyed it and am looking forward to A Dance With Dragons, but taking a quick break with Shift, the second book in the Silo Series by Hugh Howey.
