If you haven't already, you should probably read The Eyes of the Dragon, Evermind, once you finish the the series. Kinda, sorta, related and is one of King's best.

It is a great book by Stephen King, if you haven't already read it and of the more recent ones I enjoyed 11/22/63 a lot. To kinda answer your question:There are a lot of characters from his other books that appear in the dark tower series. So yes, this is Randall Flagg from The Stand.

Yeah, I've read 11/22/63. This was actually one of the better books by him, but I thought the end could've been better. Regarding the small text, wow, alright, I suspected but didn't know that.

I'll put it on my reading list.

Just starting in on Grey Sister by Mark Lawrence. I'm pretty stoked, since Red Sister was my favorite book last year.

Finally made it through Pride and Predjudice. I need help with the olde speak, had to keep rereading things to understand what was said.

Started Dark Matter and already 1/4 through. Not easy to put down.

Wow, just wow! This whole book is great but the last 1/3rd is incredible. I damn near called in sick to work so I could finish it.

The only bad thing is that I now have to wait until next year to read the final installment. :getoffmylawn:

The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers

I always wanted to read a book by this author but haven't come around yet.

In Germany he's mainly known for a comic series called "Little Asshole" which is sometimes very drastic and politically incorrect.

Please report back what you thought of the book.

Finished Dark Matter and it was very entertaining! Now starting the Newsflesh trilogy with "Feed". My husband has told me to read this for the past 3 years.

A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin

I just checked this out from the library a week ago.  For Christmas, I received books 3 & 5.  Nobody bought me book 4.

Loved book 3, but this one is slow-going so far.

From A Game Of Thrones to A Clash Of Kings to A Storm Of Swords each book is better than the one before, A Feast For Crows and A Dance Of Dragons aren't bad but suffer from the separation of the characters and timelines imo. They don't flow too well.

Yeah, I loved the first three, kept falling asleep on the fourth one. I enjoyed both AFFC and ADWD much more on my whole ASOIAF reread.

Just taking a break.  Only a few more in the series as it is, so i don't want to burn through them too quickly.

I do have the next one, Cold Days, purchased and ready, but i think I'll do the new Christopher Moore after i finish French H-Pot.

I think Martin did a bit of disservice to himself by making a 2,000 paged book and dividing it in two. I found some aspects of Crows  interesting, but ultimately, it's my least favorite of the series so far. I've heard Dance with Dragons is so much better though, which I'm probably going to read next month

Martin just announced today that The Winds of Winter is not going to be released in 2018. Somehow the guy had time to write a whole prequel story to Game of Thrones, but won't manage to finish the book this year. He really doesn't care.

I'm pretty sure of that, to be honest. We still may get The Winds of Winter, but I doubt we'll get any subsequent books after that.

Maybe he should change his mind and let Brandon Sanderson finish the series.

He published the first three in a span of four years, since then he's dragging and dragging and dragging. If you consider that the first three are the best so far, it makes you wonder why he's suddenly taking his time and then publishing half finished books. I know he got other things on his mind and working schedule but this is beginning to get ridiculous. And the sad thing is, that it makes me lose interest. I will still read the books if/when they come out but he's lost a great amount of momentum imo.

I had to DNF that last book. I enjoyed the first section, but I felt it got a bit meandering after that.

Finally finished the Trollope. not a good first impression from me, but I'm willing to give him another try.

Anyway, going to get my theater history on with Something Wonderful by Todd Purdum, about the collaboration of Rogers and Hammerstein

Finished Wizard and Glass today. Holy shit, I really think this was the best one yet. The background Roland story was incredible. Didn't really care about the present story (except for the showdown with Blaine in the beginning, that was great), but I'm fairly sure the present story was a secondary thing in this novel. All the focus was on Roland and Cuthbert and Alain and Susan in Hambry, and holy shit, this story was great. I'm pretty sure this is the best Stephen King thing I've ever read. I'm not ashamed to admit I was openly crying in the end; and it's kinda embarrassing, I was reading this on the train, and my stop came midway into the climax of the story, so I walked into a bar on the way home to finish the book; and when it got to that particular plot point, I was unable to hold the tears back. From the previous novels, I was able to guess how this would end, but still it was a heart-wrenching experience.

Not only I loved the feelings this novel made me experience; I especially loved the setting—a forgotten village somewhere on the outskirts of the world, with their own traditions and customs; everyone pretty much knows each other, and then there are the affable 'strangers', who may or may not be cunning and smart, standing against pretty much everyone, standing against the disease that caught most of the village—not a literal disease, but a political one alright. We had a feeling what Roland was capable of as a gunslinger, but this story really manages to capture his badass nature in the beginning of his path.

I think I'm going to take a break from this series for a bit now, but as I said, these three books (first one not included) are currently my favourites among Stephen King's work. This is a fantastic journey for me, one I never expected to get from King's books.

Evermind, that was a great write-up, and reminds me of my experience with Wizard and Glass years ago.

This is a good place to take a break from the series too.

I've only got some minor complaints about that book, but yeah it's amazing, and the more you know about Roland, damn, the more real he feels. A very badass yet tragic and depressing character.

Like Cool Chris said, take a little break now. The following book is awesome, but quite long, so it's better read after other stuff, otherwise you'll wear yourself a little.

I'll echo that it's a good stopping point. The last 3 are best if you can commit to reading them back to back to back, and they end with varying degrees of cliffhangers.

Yeah, that's what I'm going to do.

Actually wanted to get Red Sister by Mark Lawrence after Podaar's recommendation, but didn't find it in the bookshop. However, I did find Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie, bought it, and I'm going to reread it because I remember that was actually his only book I really liked (I kinda speed-read it for the first time and don't remember much).
