That's a very good point, actually. I was an avid reader from my youth, and I really liked some of the books we had to read in school, and I'm even rereading them from time to time, but as much as I love to read I've got to say, some of other books I had to read in school were absolute crap.

I actually remember falling asleep almost every time I tried to get through War and Peace. I finished it eventually, but man, it was one of the most boring things I've ever read.

I agree, I think Summer Knight is the first one from Dresden Files that I really loved. The first three were alright, but this one was the one that hooked me on the series.

Death Masks by Jim Butcher.

Summer Knight was good, but to be honest, they're all pretty much the same for me so far. The plots are decent, the action comes at a brisk pace, and there's plenty of humor throughout.  I don't think i could actually  pick a favorite out of the first four.

I expect my reading will slow down quite a bit next month. For the last couple years I've been able to do a lot of reading at work, but i start a new position in April which will likely kill the reading.

I still remember the plot and the twist at the end but have forgotten everything in between. Same goes for DaVinci Code.

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Over the years, it took me four attempts to get through that book. The last time, I got through it with no hesitation and loved it. The other attempts it would loose/bore me by the third chapter. I guess I had to be in the mood. Mrs. P has read it three times and loved it each time.

Well, that had to be my least favorite Gaiman book. Not that it was bad, but I've enjoyed his other books more. Still glad I finally read it though

Blood Rites by Jim Butcher. I may take a hiatus from the Dresden Files after this one, but I'm sure many an addict has claimed "Just one more needle, I swear it, then I'll stop".

The series is well worth it if you can stick with it after that one.  It's my least favorite of the 7 by a margin. Great opening line, though.

Pretty much this. Thought it was an ok book, but the second one blew me away and from there the series is very consistent in quality imo.

As the others have already said, don't judge the series by the first book. I almost gave up when I first read the Gunslinger, but it's the second book The Drawing Of The Three where everything starts to get real great.

I bought the whole boxset with all the seven books plus Wind Through the Keyhole (or whatever it's called, my bookshelf is a bit away from my PC so I don't want to get up and check it), so I suppose I won't stop after the first book. Good to see the positive thoughts on the series, though.

Dead Beat by Jim Butcher.

Don't look at me like that.  I can stop wherever i want.

I kinda don't remember what happens in these books between Summer Knight and newer books—well, I remember what happens, but I don't remember what happens in which book—but my advise would be to keep at it and just continue reading book after book, not stopping somewhere in the middle of the series. That's what I did and I loved the experience (really, I just couldn't put them down because I loved them so much).

However, it's up to you. While a lot of these books are kinda the same in terms of structure and narrative, the things really get more wild later and I suppose you may find yourself surprised at the turns of events as these books progress.

Shit, that's correct. I should've remembered that because of the novel's name.

Unfortunately, that was DNF'd pretty quickly

Instead I'm going to read my first Anthony Trollope and see how that goes, with Can You Forgive Her?

I loved those books, sometimes they are a little bit generic but fun to read nonetheless.

Yep, that's what I've heard.

Mistborn:The Final Empire - Brandon Sanderson

Oh shit, that's probably my favourite from Sanderson. I'm sure that's because it's 1) my first foray into Sanderson's writing, not counting his Wheel of Time novels 2) my first foray into any fantasy book in its original language. So my love for this is probably sentimental, but I've reread this book for like four or five times, and I still love it just as much as before. The characters aren't very deep (but deep enough that I still loved most of them), however, the plot is just outstanding. I love this book from the beginning to the end. And I suppose this book is also responsible for actually getting me into fantasy as much as I'm into it now.
