On the plus side, only 2 and a bit years away until you can solemnly inform them that, unfortunately, they are only allowed to celebrate their birthday for half a minute this year.

I generally hate those dopey sayings people hang on their walls, but whoever first said "The days are long but the years are short" was brilliant.

Regarding birthday parties, after turning 21, there's no reason we need to have a party for your birthday until you reach 80, at the earliest.

Nah, birthday parties are fun.  With so much shit in the world, I'll take an excuse to get some friends/family together and celebrate something.

I get that, for sure.

We don't have parties, per se, but use our birthdays (immediate family) as excuses to go out to a nice restaurant, have a nice meal, and laugh our asses off.

On my birthday, I will take a day off and just do what I want all day.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Same here. I usually invite my best friends to a nice restaurant after my birthday on Saturday and pay the bill. The actual birthday, I'm either alone and doing fuck all, or celebrating with my parents.

I always plan a few days of my vacation around my birthday, even if it's just to sleep at home with no travel. I don't think I've ever been at work on my birthday in the past decade.

Oh yeah, that's what I meant.  Not an actual party with balloons and stuff, but a get-together at a nice restaurant, or maybe invite people over for dinner.  And of course cake.

It's also illegal to beg here so no homeless. It's a very nice city, but it's too sterile for my tastes. I need a little excitement and luxury malls don't really get me excited. I miss America

It is! It's a pallas's cat. It's actually hand-painted on the tie by a local artist.

Nice! I see you succumbed to the $25 bubble wand.

Having that wand for her to wave around and blow bubbles at people saved us from hours of boredom waiting in ride lines. Best $30 I spent the whole trip! It was the only souvenir she really wanted. Whenever we went in to any shops she'd say "There's nothing here I really want." "GREAT! Let's get the hell out here and hit some more rides!"

I should've factored in inflation and CA prices, I think when I last bought that for my daughter it was $15. We've bought it at least twice for her and yes they are easily fulfilled with that little cheap plastic bubble machine. Disneyland is fun though can't beat the Florida version.

I told her she could pick out one souvenir each day, and the first day that was what she wanted. She wanted to bring in the second day, and I initially said she couldn't, but she pouted and I remembered it did keep her occupied so said it was fine. She'll play with it all summer, so will probably get more enjoyment out of it than a Minnie bow-headband.

Will post Disneyland thoughts in the travel thread in a day or two.
