Hey, hey, stop your blubbering.

Top five movie for me. Aside from being something of an inspiration for me as a lad, it's a damn fine film. It also has quite possibly the best score for a comedy ever composed. Elmer Bernstein was the fucking Man, and Animal House was his triumph.

No doubt. His list of credits is insane. The Great Escape is my favorite.

Yes, and good pull from Zyder with the MacGyver call. He was great on that show.

More subdued than most of his work, but a good one. What I always liked about Elmer is the different approach he took to John Williams. JW wrote amazing scores that elevated movies from behind the scenes. Be it Star Wars, E.T., or my personal favorite, Close Encounters, the movies wouldn't be the same without his music, but the music was always just sort of there, happening around you. Elmer Bernstein wrote his music to be a main part of the cast. He wanted his scores to have a staring role, and they almost always did. The theme from The Magnificent Seven is hardly background music. I think that's what made all of his comedic scores so successful. His music would almost shove its way to the forefront, and was almost always far too serious for its own good. The title sequence to Airplane was the best example of that.
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

Spot on about the comedic scores. I almost mentioned Airplane! (people keep forgetting the ! is part of the title). That score definitely elevates that film to a whole new level, beyond a simple, low-budget slapstick comedy.

I think it was Eli Wallach who said he wished they played the Magnificent Seven score on the set, as it would have made him ride his horse harder and faster.

WOW, that's the second Rizzoli & Isles reference in as many days. WTF? I was watching To Tell The Truth over the weekend, and one of the contestants was a "blood spatter expert", and the woman that played Tootie on "Facts Of Life" asked who the head of their police department was, and the contestant said "Rizzoli".   And Tootie was "What?  Like Rizzoli and Isles?  You're lying!"
