I finally shaved, with no pictures, but I tried growing a beard, and I can't wait the six weeks it takes for me not to look like a lost, semi-retired pirate. Which is funny because the hair on my head grows FAST.

Thanks bud. I'd been looking back at how long I'd been growing it but it was from the point where I knew nothing about growing a beard or if I could even grow one. In the last few years my ability to grow facial hair has grown drastically but I'd attempt trimming it sometimes with disastrous results, and I didn't use any products to keep it healthy and I should have especially since I work in a really dusty, dirty environment. And it got super scraggly and I had a bad habit of plucking hairs, also. So this time I've been really good at keeping it clean and oiled and brushed and I'm surprised at how fast it's grown back. I still want to grow another massive beard, so that's cool, but it's already getting to the awkward part where it's becoming noticeably long on the neck. I want to trim it as little as possible, I'm going for Ultimate Beard Status here if I can. Since it's growing so fast I'm going to make an appointment with a barber soon who can actually guide me towards what I want and how I can maintain it better. I'm also periodically taking photos of my beard cause I want to see the growth every few days or weeks at the end of the year.

Not going to lie the first three days was nothing but regret and anxiety but once I saw it growing back quickly I was relieved.

I do, though, like shaving in stages. When I opted to ditch the beard, I went with mutton chops and a van dyke, until the wife gave me "the look" (that took a matter of about 24 hours) then I shaved it down to the pointed sideburns like Bruce and Blaze wear, then I screwed up trimming it, and I'm now back to normal.

Man... my kid pictures are buried away somewhere - if I even have them. I do have about 20 boxes of slides that I got from my father's place after he passed away, but I haven't checked to see if the projector works or not. I really should do that sometime.

Yes slides! Makes me remember my dad taking out the old slide projector and letting me handle the button since I was the oldest. Take that sis!

I know my family has all our old pictures in photo albums at their house, so they should be in good condition. I know it was important to them to take care of those memories.

This one really tends to show the portuguese side of my heritage. Not too long after this my facial hair started coming in very quickly and by the time I was 15 I had the same mustache I've worn ever since. The only time I ever shaved it off was boot camp.
